We started concept 23 today (solving quadratic equations by square roots, factoring and graphing).  We took some notes concept-23-notes1 and praticed a few problems.  We will get back to concept 22 and the family of quadratics on Monday.  The homework for concept 22 is concept-22-graded-homework.  It will not be due until at least Wednesday of next week.

There is an assessment tomorrow on concepts 20 and 21.  Students will be given about 25 minutes for the assessment.

Students got back their assessments from yesterday.

We took notes concept-21-and-22-notes-2 and explored zeros of a quadratic function.  Some very interesting and thought provoking questions today about how factoring might be related to finding the zeros of a function.  We will explore the answers to those questions as we learn to solve quadratic equations.

I forgot to collect the handout and the graded homework today so I will get that from you tomorrow.

Next assessment is Friday and will be on concepts 20 and 21.

Sorry for the delay in getting things posted.

Today we took some notes on the vertex of a quadratic graph and took assessments on concepts 19 and 20.  This week’s study session will be tonight instead of Wednesday due to family commitments.

Today was a snow day.  The retakes that were scheduled for today will be taken on Monday.  The last day to retake concept # 15 will be Monday March 9.  The last day to retake concept #16 will be Friday March 12.  See you Monday.

Today was the assessment on concepts 16, 17, 18 and 19.  This was the last time for concept # 16.  The last day to retake concept # 15 will be next Friday and the last day to retake concept 16 will be March 12.

Today we reviewed the assessments on concepts 14, 16, 17 and 18 and discussed ideas for how to do better.

Students discussed with their groups their answers to Practice Worksheet C.  Individual students then went to the SmartBoard to explain how to do each of the problems on the Practice C worksheet.  We got through about half of them in each class.  This will be collected on Friday.  Work is to be shown on loose-leaf paper, answers are to be written on the handout.

There will be a study session on Wednesday, February 24 in room 111 from 3:00 to 3:45.

Students received their grade assessments from Friday.  They should be reviewing any errors on them tonight and coming with questions tomorrow.

The deadline to retake concept 14 is this Friday.  The deadline to retake concept 15 is next Tuesday.

We will have an assessment on concepts 16, 17, 18, and 19 on Thursday.

We started a practice worksheet on factoring today.  It is not homework.  Bring it back tomorrow to finish. 8-6-practice-c-worksheet  Remember that factor always means completely factor.  Always check all factors to see if they can be factored further.

Please check Progress Book for any grade entry errors that I may have made.  Interims are to be in by Wednesday afternoon.

Today we looked at a flowchart of factoring polynomials.  Now that we have looked at specific types of factoring polynomials we are mixing them all together and having to make decisions about the best way to correctly and completely factor a polynomial.  factoring-flowchart
