Procedure for HS 1⁰ (9/29/08)

Objective: Students will be able to write old/new vocabulary and use new vocabulary in old/new sentence patterns.

Procedure:

1. 1) Take one square paper.  2) Quiz on Friday.  Last quiz papers will be returned after Dean finishes taking his makeup quiz today. 
2. Monday Sharing. 
3. Dictation on dry erase board (characters, terms, sentences).
4. Complete the remaining sentence patterns (second half of Lesson 11 handout).
5. Model the remaining characters. 

H/W: 1) Bring your workbook on Wednesday.  2) Write the remaining characters as homework assignment tonight.  3) Practice writing and memorize all characters.  3) Review your handout for sentence patterns.  4) Read/Preview textbook pgs. 93-100.  5) Utilize tomorrow very wisely and effectively!

Procedure for HS 2⁰/9⁰ (9/29/08)

Objective: 1) Prepare students with new sentence structure for their oral presentation.  2) Practice reading sentences for oral fluency.  3) Students will be able to say/tell/count numbers from 0 to 100 before Friday

Procedure:

1. Monday Sharing.
2. Make arrangement with Ms. Chang for your counting numbers quiz (20 points).  Due this Friday.  If not, take it in class!!
3. Teach new vocabulary (jiā家family, yǒu 有have, … gè rén 個人… persons, suì歲years old, ér zi兒子 son, nǚ ér 女兒 daughter, tā他/她he/she) and sentence patterns (I am…, There are … people in my family, They are ….., I am ….years old).
4. Write sample sentences and make your own sentences.
5. Write your sentences/Pair practice (read your sentences to your partner).
6. Practice reading sentences (Review Sheet #1).

H/W: 1) Memorize new terms (jiā家family, yǒu 有have, … gè rén 個人… persons, suì歲years old, ér zi兒子 son, nǚ ér 女兒 daughter, tā他/她he/she ).  2) Practice saying your sentences.  We will take turns reading in the class.  3) Practice counting numbers 0-100.

2. Oral presentation.  Turn in your hardcopy for grades.
3. Teach new terms (directions—up, down, left, right, front, behind), if time allows.

Procedure for MS 5⁰ (9/29/08)

Objective: 1) Students familiarize themselves with direction terms.  2) Students have their oral presentation copy proofread.

Procedure:

1. Monday sharing.
2. Review new terms (directions—up, down, left, right, front, behind).
3. Pair practice.
4. Game: pin the donkey tail.
5. Check draft for oral presentation.

H/W: 1) Practice your oral presentation (#1-#14).  2) Finalize your hardcopy to turn in on Wednesday.

1.  Collect class notes for grades (20 points).  Change seats (5th period only).

5.  Ms. Chang check your oral presentation draft.

Procedure for HS 1 period (9/25/08)

1.  Turn in your homework.

2.  Review/Sound out the vocabulary learned from yesterday.

3.  Dictation (Informal assessment) on dry erase board.

4.  Teach new sentence patterns (first half of our handout).

5.  Class work (making sentences and terms).

6.  Teach new characters.

Procedure for HS 2/9 Periods (9/25/08)

1.  Quiz tomorrow (classroom expressions, family members, compound vowels).

2.  Informal assessment on dry erase board (family members, compound vowels).

3.  Review classroom expressions.  Go over sample questions for quiz tomorrow.

4.  Continue Review Sheet #1 (We are reading sentences!!!).

Procedure for MS 3/5 periods (9/25/08)

1.  Class notes due tomorrow.  Oral presentation starts next Monday.   Turn in your hard copy when giving the presentation.

2.  Ms. Chang Checks your draft for tone marks and spellings mistakes.

3.  Show and tell.

4.  Introduce websites (will continue).

H/W: Finalize your oral presentation draft.

Procedure for HS 1 period (9/24/08)

1.  Prepare for Lesson 11.  Read new vocabulary. 

2.  Model Stroke order. 

H/W: 1) Write the first 10 characters, 1 row each.  Make sure you can write the characters without looking.  2) Make index cards to play around and memorize the terms.  Make sure you can identify the terms when you hear or read them in the text.

Procedure for HS 2P/9P (9/24/08)

1.  Try on Dry Erase Board (family members).
2.  Try Random Number Generator.
3.  Try Classroom Expressions matching.
4.  Continue Compound Vowels (uo, üe) in Compound Vowels handout.

5.  Pair practice.
6.  Start Review sheet #1, if time remains.

H/W: practice blending, classroom expressions, and family members.

Procedure for MS 3P/5P (9/24)

1.  Complete the writing assignment from reading packet.  Collect for grades.

2.  Continue writing one last sentence for the oral presentation next week. 

3.  Learn new terms for animals, if other than the ones presented by Ms. Chang.

4.  Read your sentences to your partner.

5.  Show and tell.

H/W: 1) Class notes are due this Friday.   2) Write a final edition (2 copies) for your oral presentation.  One copy to keep in the presentation and one copy to turn in to Ms. Chang in the presentation.

Objective: Learn to describe people in terms of physical characteristics and grade levels.

1. Dictation on dry erase board. Demonstrate and practice handwriting characters.

2. Continue on Lesson 10 (pages 86-88).

Procedure for HS 2⁰ /9⁰ (9/18/08)

Objectives: Students have general idea about what the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival is.

1. Review all consonants/vowels/terms (the first/second/third/fourth tone, stand up, sit down, bow, j, q, x, ao, ai, ei, ou) from yesterday.

2. Quiz on dry erase board. Try random numbers generator game to practice saying numbers in Chinese.

1. Introduce mid-autumn festival. Show and tell: projects from last year (moon cake, tea, and grape). Tell the legend story.

Objective: Familiarize oneself with correct characters’ stroke order.

1.     Turn in your homework from yesterday.  Extend one more day for the students who did not see it yesterday. 

2.     TPR/Informal assessment on body parts on dry erase board. 

3.     Demonstrate how to write characters (textbook and supplementary materials).  Practice writing characters on dry erase board.

4.     Listening comprehension activity: drawing on board.

Objective: Students will be able to discriminate new compound vowels.

1.     Take one handout.  Quiz this Friday,

3.     Teach new terms—Classroom Expressions (the first/second/third/fourth tone).
