Procedures and Homework for 9/16/2008

Procedure for HS 10 (9/16/08)

 

Objective: Solidify the vocabulary of describing people through games and song activity. 

 

1.     1) Review body parts from yesterday.  2) Introduce one good website.

www.csulb.edu/~txie/online.htm.  3) Enrichment materials.

 

fat (pàng);  skinny (shòu); flat (biǎn); curly (juǎn); straight (zhí); thick (cū); thin (xì)        

 

2.     Games (Ms. Chang says…, Gusty Wind Blows) & Song (Where’s my friend?, “Head and Shoulder Knees and Toes”).  Ching Ching, Dana, and Raymond lead one game and one song. 

3.     Start and Read Lesson 10 (p. 85/p. 86/p. 87).

4.     Pair practice: 1) replace text on p. 85 with information that describes your partner), 2) Q/A: replace text on p. 86/87.

5.     Return papers (H/W, Skit, Quiz papers). 

 

H/W: 1) Writing assignment (characters on page 90, one row each).  2) Continue memorizing terms for all body parts.

 

Procedure for HS 20 /90 (9/16/08)

 

1.     Informal assessment on dry erase board (numbers 0-10, j, q, x).

2.     Finish consonants (j, q, x).  Teach new terms (qǐ=> stand up, jìng lǐ=> bow, zuò xià => sit down).  Check each individual’s pronunciation, if possible.

3.     Pair activity (two rows to exchange telephone number/address information).

4.     Teach new vowels (ao, ou, ei, ai).  Go over handout.

5.     Teach new terms (the first/second/third/fourth tone, stand up, sit down, and bow).

 

H/W: 1) Read the packet tonight.  2) Practicie blending.

 

Procedure for MS 30/50 (9/16/08)

 

Objectives:  Build up oral presentation draft.

 

1.                 1) Check index cards.  2) Review 11 colors.  3) Informal assessment (students hold up their colored cards). 

2.                 Review birthday terms (month, day).

3.                 Continue writing three more sentences for the oral presentation.  Draw numbers for presentation order.

4.                 Pair practice—read your draft (8 sentences now) to your partner.

5.                 Game—rock, scissors, and paper in Chinese..

Procedures and Homework for 9/15/2008

Procedure for HS 10 (9/15/08)

 

Objective: Learn to describe people in terms of physical characteristics and grade levels.

 

1.     1) Take one handout (body parts/supplementary vocabulary and terms).  2) Quiz on Lesson 10 this coming Friday (?).  3) Artists get ready for the second thank-you card.  Coordination group can plan to bring food in.

2.     Monday sharing.

3.     Skit (Don/Ms. Chang, Kim/Kevin).  James’ makeup test?

4.     Introduce new vocabulary & terms in the handout.

5.     Pair practice (all body parts).

6.     Feedback time (Need to show stroke order?  Pace?  Quiz format?)

 

H/W: 1) Make index cards with handout and memorize terms (10 body parts).  2) Preview Lesson 10. 

Procedure for HS 20/90 (9/15/08)

 

Objective: Master numbers 0-10 and learn to count from 0 to 100. 

 

1.     1) Quiz (90 only).  2) Quizzes this coming Wednesday and Friday (numbers, classroom terms, consonants/vowels).  3) Artists get ready for the second thank-you card.  Coordination group can plan to bring food in.

2.     Take two handouts (number table and numbers 0-10)

3.     Monday sharing.

4.     Review numbers 0-10. 

5.     Go over handout and count from 0 to 100.

6.     pair practice (say numbers 0-10 first, and then say each other’s phone numbers and address with street number and zip code).

7.     Teach new consonants (j, q, x).  Go over handout from last week.

8.     Pair practice pronunciation.  Ms Chang checks pronunciation.

 

H/W: 1) Make index cards (0-10, family members) with handout and memorize them.  2) Practice blending consonants/vowels tonight. 

Procedure for MS 30/50 (9/15/08)

 

  1. 1) Return quiz papers.  2) Mitchell, Meredith, & Ryan S. take the makeup test.  3) Quiz this coming Friday (colors).  4) Pass out black, red, and brown strips.  
  2. Check index cards.  Review colors.  Pair practice. 
  3. Teach new terms/Pair practice (favorite color, years-old).
  4. Continue writing your oral presentation (I am…, There are … people in my family, They are …., I like…color the best, I am …years-old).
  5. Read sentences to your partners.

Objective: Build fluency through listening and speaking.

 

Procedure:

1.    Housekeeping: 1) Monday Sharing (Q/A).  2) H/W and grades are available on the website. 3) Return Character writing assignment #2.  4) Pass out Workbook packet, if needed. 

2.    Listen to Lesson 9 CD and follow along. 

3.    Activity (assemble jigsaw puzzle).

4.    Practice on Workbook (continue tomorrow).

 

H/W: Write 7/8 characters (each character one row)

 

Procedure for HS 2o/9o 9/9/08

 

Objectives: 1) Practice blending and discriminating vowels and consonants.  2) Learn new classroom expressions.

 

Procedure:

1.    Practice discriminating sounds on dry erase board.

2.    Students took turn blending sounds through Pinyin software.  Learn three new consonants (g, k, h). 

3.    Review and learn new classroom expressions.

 

H/W: continue practice blending/discriminating sounds.

 

Procedure for MS 3o/5o 9/9/08

 

Procedure:

1.     Collect H/W (teaching slip).  Check index cards.

2.     Review family members and numbers.  Count from 0 to 99.

3.     Start writing your presentation sentences.

4.     Grouping for Origami activity.

Procedure for HS 10 (9/8/08)

 

Objectives: 1) Complete Lesson 9 with various reinforcement activities.  2) Go over skit grading criteria.

 

Procedures:

1.     Return Quiz papers and informal assessment papers. 

2.     Review skit rubric.  Skit on Thursday.  Each pair turns in a hardcopy of all dialogue, a copy of rubric and the original skit card for grading. 

3.     Read Lesson 9.  Activities (charades, Q/A). 

4.     Pair practice for the skit.

 

H/W: 1) Work on full dialogue for skit.  2) Bring in your workbook tomorrow.

Procedure for HS 20/90 (9/8/08)

 

Objectives: 1) Continue to practice blending vowels/consonants.  2) Learn new classroom expression.

 

Procedure:

1.                 Take handout.

2.                 Return Quiz papers and informal assessment papers.  Quiz this coming Friday (2 sections—classroom expressions and discriminating sounds)

3.                 Browse Chinese II students’ handwriting!!

4.                 Review classroom expressions.  Teach another three terms.    

5.                 Teach Review (b, p, m, f, a, o, i, e, u) and learn new consonants.

 

H/W: 1) Browse through packet (d, t, n, l, g, k, h., j, q, x) tonight.  2) Practice blending consonants/vowels.  Tomorrow we try writing them out on the dry erase board.

Procedure for MS 30 /50 (9/8/08)

 

 

1.     Collect H/W (teaching slip), if any.  Quiz this coming Friday.

2.     Return quiz papers.  Pass out worksheet for index cards.

3.     Review family members and numbers 0-10.  Teach two new terms and numbers (month, day, and numbers 11-30).  

4.     Pair practice (0-30, months—January to December, and days—1st to 31st).

4.    Introduce resources available in the classroom (magazines, CD, tapes, computer package & light pen).

Objective: 1) Students take first quiz and informal assessment of blending vowels/consonants.  2) Introduce resources available in the classroom.

3. Introduce classroom resources (magazine, CD, tapes, computer, light pens)

4.  Review classroom expressions.  Teach new terms.

1.             Quiz (basic greetings).

2.             Pass out “Teaching” slip.  Due on next Tuesday (9/9).

3.             Review family member terms and numbers 1-6.  Teach new numbers 7-10 and a new term “Wish you happy birthday”.

4.             Pair practice (numbers, telephone numbers)

5.             Game/Activity: 1) sing “Happy Birthday” song.  2) rotate and say numbers (count by #s)

9/4/08 Procedures for HS/MS Chinese

Procedure for HS 1o (9/4/08)

 

Objective: Learn new various sport terms.

 

1.      Get a copy of Lesson 9 handout.  Turn in H/W from yesterday.  Quiz tomorrow.    

2.      Make sure you have 5 tabs for “general information”, “handouts”, “class notes”, “homework”, and “tests/quizzes.”

3.      Start Lesson 9.  Go over new terms first.  Learn new sentence pattern (I like ….). 

4.      Pay attention to 1) radicals (water, horse, foot, hand), 2) action words for sports.     

5.      Pair practice–interview each other for preference, get information and present the information to the class. 

6.      Pass out skit slip for next Monday. 

 

H/W: 1) Memorize all sport names for tomorrow’s informal assessment.  2) Review measure words, nationality for quiz.  I will have your quiz paper signed by your parents if you score below 80%!!

Procedure for HS 2o/9o (9/4/08)

 

Objective: blend 5-7 simple vowels with 4 initial consonants.

 

1.  Quiz this Friday (matching–terms with corresponding meanings; multiple choices–discriminate sounds). 

2.  Go over vowels/consonants.  Try to sound out all combinations.

3.  Review classroom expressions.  Learn two more terms today. 

 

H/W: 1) Review 12 basic greeting terms for quiz.  I will have your quiz paper signed by your parents if you score below 80%!!  2) Practice blending.

Objective: Students be able to match nationality and the translated Chinese characters.

 

1. Get grid paper/handout for H/W.  Turn in H/W from yesterday.    

2.  Check binders (5 tabs for “general information”, “handouts”, “class notes”, “homework”, and “tests/quizzes.”)

3.  Read Lesson 8. 

4.  Pair practice–interview each other, get information and present the information to the class. 

H/W: write 7 characters for one row.

Objective: Students learn to blend five simple vowels and four consonants.

 

1.  Check your index cards/binder (2o).

2.  Start teaching Hanyu Pinyin.    

3.  Review Classroom expressions.  Learn new phrases.

 

H/W: 1) review 12 terms. 2) Practice blending vowels/consonants.
