Procedures and Homework Assignments for 10/30/08

Procedure for HS 1P (10/30/08)

 

Objectives: Students will take a quiz to demonstrate their mastery of telling time and action word vocabulary.  2) After viewing the short story, students will retell/summarize the story, and compare/contrast the Chinese saying with similar English expressions.

Procedure:

1.      (1) Take one stroke order handout.  (2) Schedule change today (shorter 5-9th periods).  See side board for details.    (3) Return all papers.  (4) Adjust seating before our quiz.  (5) Change seats? –draw a number for your seat.  Ms. Chang reserves the right to adjust the seating.

3. Movie “Three monks”.

 

H/W: 1) H/W due next Monday (11/3).  2) Read textbook pages 21-23.  3) Preview your vocabulary stroke order handout. 

  

 

Procedure for HS 2P/9P (10/30/08)

 

Objective: 1) Students will take a quiz to demonstrate their mastery of back nasal sounds and basic greeting characters.  2) (2P)—Students will acquire historical background information about the Great Wall of China.  (9P) After viewing the short story of “Three Monks”, students will retell/summarize the story, and compare/contrast the Chinese saying with similar English expressions.

Procedure:

  1. 1) Return all papers.  2) Adjust seating before quiz.  3) new seating for next quarter?  –draw a number for your seat.   Ms. Chang reserves the right to adjust the seating

2.   View DVD “Great Wall of China” and practice using chopsticks to eat Cheerios.

H/W: Get familiar with learned character and practice to read textbook p.7 without looking into the Hnayu Pinyin.

Procedure for MS 3P/5P (10/24/08)

1.  Review 12 numbers (0, 100, 1-10).  Informal assessment.

2.  Count from 0-100.  Explain and tell the differences between Chinese and American format of telling date. 

3.  View DVD “Great Wall of China”.  Practice chopsticks w/Cheerios (3P only).

4.  Preview sounds of family members (5 P only).

H/W: review numbers to match among Chinese pinyin, English meaning, and Chinese characters.  Prepare yourself for quiz on next Tuesday.

2.                  Go over the answers key to the Geography reading packet.

3.                  Listen to a music CD to review characters learned before.

4.                  Model 5-7 new vocabulary from lesson two.

Objectives: 1) Students will acquire accurate geographic knowledge after reviewing the answers.  2) Students will learn front nasal vowels.  3) Students will review Chinese characters 1-10 through listening to a CD activity.  4) Students will learn 5 new characters from lesson two.

 

Procedure:

1.                  Take 3 handouts (stroke order, square papers, lyrics for CD). 

2.                  Go over the answer key to the Geography reading packet.

3.                  Listen to the CD to review number characters.

4.                  Finish up front nasal vowels.  Pair practice.  Check pronunciation.

5.                  Model stroke orders for new vocabulary.

Chinese brush painting for HS 1P/2P/9P students.  No Chinese lessons today.

Procedure for MS 3P/5P (10/16/08)

1.  Collect signature slips. 

2.  Review old terms (basic greetings 5 terms).  Reteach 5 new terms from yesterday.  Pair practice 5 new terms.  Teach the last 2 terms in this unit. 

3.  Group/pair seatwork: Group/Pair read the packet and work on the worksheet.  Finish the very first 10 questions.  Each group/pair is assigned a city to label on the map. 

4.  Students lable the important cities/landmarks in China and share the significance of the city with their classmates.

 H/W: 1) Finish the first 10 questions on the worksheeet.  2) Familiarize yourself with the basic greetings (12 terms).
