Objective: For two days, students will present their cultural project on various topics.

Procedure:

1. Follow your presentation order to do your oral presentation. Turn in your 2-page hard copy, please.
2. Please check View Finder to make sure your grades are all correct.

Procedure for HS 2P/9P (11/25/08)

Objective: Students will gain some interesting knowledge about Chinese martial arts through a action-packed movie “Chop Socky”

H/W: practice writing your Chinese name.

Procedure:

1. 1) Go over quiz for input.  2) Review after quiz (study strategies).  3) Pass back all homework papers.

Objective: Students will complete a art project by drawing pictures with 10 Chinese terms (a theme) on index cards or on a 9 by 11 paper.

Procedure:

1) Please check your grades on Progress Book. 2) Art project. Collect at the end of the class.

Objectives: Students will do research and work on their cultural project.

H/W: Complete your project. Due next Monday.

Procedure:

Work on laptop and e-mail the final project to Ms. Chang’s account.

Procedure HS 2P/9P (11/21/08)

Objectives: Students will prepare themselves for the quiz next Monday.

H/W: 1) one row for each new character. 2) Study for next Monday’s quiz.

Procedure:

1. 1) Turn in your H/W. 2) Quiz next Monday.
2. Listen to CD (textbook pages 23-28).
3. Go over sample quiz questions.
4. Complete oral quiz (9P).
5. Practice skit.

Objectives:

H/W: 1) one row for each new character. 2) Study for next Monday’s quiz.

Procedure:

1. Check your WB pages.
2. Go over the answers to the WB.
3. Model new vocabulary (今, 年, 祝. 生, 日, 快, 樂)
4. Listen to the CD and work on workbook Section A on pages 22-23.
5. Homework time / Finish up oral quiz.

Objective: 1) Students will be able to describe themselves, their families and their preferences in an oral presentation. 2)

Procedure:

1. Pass back all papers/drafts (5P). Oral presentation. (5P only).

2. Check out Chinese artifacts (3P).

Procedure for HS 1P (11/19/08)

Objectives: Students will review 1) ways to describe daily routine and 2) ways to state one’s birthday, and 3) terms of various sports.

H/W: Prepare your project.

Procedure:

1. Project due next Monday/Tuesday. You are welcome to have it earlier (Friday) for bonus points.

2. Pair activity 1) Daily routine. 2) Whose’s birthday is it?

Objectives: 1) Students will be able to demonstrate their mastery of simple vowels and consonants. 2) Students will through practicing on workbook and reading textbook.

H/W: workbook pages 23-26/Sections B-E, and textbook pages 26-31, if not completed in class.

Procedure:

1. 1) Turn in your H/W. 2) Bring in your workbook to listen to CD tomorrow. 3) Quiz on Lesson 4 next Monday.

2. Oral quiz.

Two assignments for the rest of the class: 1) workbook pages 23-26/Sections B-E, and 2) textbook pages 26-31. They are your homework for tonight, if not completed in class.

Procedure:

1. Pass back all drafts/quiz papers.

2. Finalize your presentation draft. Practice your oral presentation for tomorrow (5P). Do Origami project if you finish early.

3. Review body parts. Game time (Follow the leader/Simon says).

4. Check out Chinese artifacts.

Procedure for HS 1P (11/18/08)

1.  Finish skits.

2.  Introduce a website with online tools for computer keyboard input (Chinese characters).

3.  Introduce a software package for reviewing characters, conversation, and pronunciation.

Procedure for HS 2P/9P  (11/18)

1.  1) Turn in your H/W and take another copy for tonight (or write on an old one).  2) Oral quiz tomorrow.  3) Quin on Lesson 4 next Tuesday.

2.  Informal assessment on dry erase board.

3.  Read textbook pages 23-24 twice.

4.  Model 3 new characters (xie, jin, nian).

5.  Introduce a software package for reviewing stroke order, conversation, and pronunciation.

Procedure for MS 3P/5P (11/18/08)

1.  Pass back/review your quiz paper.

2.  Pass back all oral presentation drafts for final editing.

3.  1) Organize your class notes.  Turn in your class notes before Friday.  Oral presentation starting from Thursday (5P).  2) Introduce/teach a website to input Pinyin with tone marks online (3P).

4.  Showcase art project samples from previous groups.  Art project on next Monday.  Movie next Tuesday.

5.  Introduce new terms (body parts).

Objectives: 1) Students will identify someone, state his/her age, and welcome the person. 2) Students will acquire the knowledge of Chinese attitude towards age and the Chinese customs for celebrating birthdays.

H/W: 1) 3 new characters (one row each). 2) Read ReviewSounds #1.

Procedure:

1. 1) Oral quiz this Wednesday. 2) Quiz on Lesson 4 next Monday/Tuesday (?)

2. Informal assessment of 7 characters. Practice on dry erase board.

Objectives: Students will be able to state math expressions in Chinese.

H/W: Practice 5 math operators.

1. 1) Quick review before quiz (colors, sentences). 2) Turn in your class notes on Friday for grades. 3) Oral presentation this Friday. One copy for you to read and one copy for Ms. Chang to grade. 3) Art project next Monday and movie next Tuesday (our last day in Chinese class).

1.  Submit names of your pair and draw a number as your order in presenting the skit next Monday.

2.  Be sure to let me know your topic on/before Monday.  The project is due on 11/24/ and 11/25.  We will draw a number to decide the order of presentaiton.

1.  Review all 11 colors.  Informal assessment.

2.  Quiz next Monday.  10 matchings and 2 sentences (I like … colors; My phone number is …)

3.  Go over 2 sentences.

4.  Mini art project (2 paper cutting patterns: double happiness, longevity).

H/W: study for quiz next Monday.

Procedure:

1. 1) Turn in your names for pair skit activity on/before Friday. Draw numbers to determine your order of presentation for next Monday. 2) Tell Ms. Chang your topic to get approval.

Procedure:

1. Turn in your H/W. Get another copy of square paper.

2. Informal assessment on dry erase board.

3. Model new characters (歡, 迎).  Finish two rows as classwork.  Ms. Chang checks the accuracy.

4. Read textbook pages 23-24.

5.        Sight read/finish up ReviewSounds #1.

MS 3P/5P (11/13/08)

Procedure:

1. 1) Review 9 colors. 2) Informal assessment.

2. Go over sports handout. Extra sports terms required?

3. Write down three sentences about preferences. Review 4 sentences (my address, my preferences about colors, pets, and sports). Collect as a participation grade.

4. Pass out finger-guessing game handout (rock, paper, scissors). Practice.

H/W: memorize last 2 colors. Quiz next Monday

Objective: 1) Students will be ready for their quiz tomorrow through various activities.

H/W: review all action words, ways to tell time, and way to describe daily routine.

Procedure:

1.                  Listening to CD.  (Sections A => C => D => I on pages 9, 11, 12, and 17).  Ask for Section I written slip of the dialogue. 

2.                  Check answer key to sections D/I.

3.                  Matching activity.

4.                   Review sample questions.

6.                  Go over possible topics for cultural project.

Procedure:

1.                  Viewing a cute video clip.

3.                  Sight read ReviewSounds1 (#1-#15).  Get ready for oral quiz next week.  5 sentences for each student to earn 5 points.

Procedure:

1.                  Check index cards (colors) / Informal assessment. / Quiz next Monday. 

2.                  Makeup tests (Brianna and Tim Von at 5P).

4.                  Teach terms about animals.  Go over Chinese zodiac handout to learn about animals.  Optional animals required? 

5.                  Construct sentences (#8 and #9).
