Procedures and Homework Assignments for 11/11/08

Procedure for HS 1P (11/11/08)

 Objectives: Students will prepare themselves for quiz this Thursday.

H/W: review lesson 2 for quiz.

Procedure:

  1. (1) Turn in your H/W.  (2) Ms. Chang checks your WB pages 14/15/16. 
  2. Go over key to WB pages 14/15/16.
  3. Finish up Supplementary Material for Lesson 2.
  4. Go over skit/cultural project details.  1) Skit: talk about birthday, hobbies, and daily routine with specific time.  Altogether 15-20 sentences.  Memorize it, please.  Pair activity.  2) Project: PowerPoint presentation (history, development, applications, demonstration, etc—bullets only on slides).  At least 10 slides.  Turn in 2 pages hard copy of introduction, history, applications, significance.  Double space, please.  Possible topics include: Chinese chess, go, Chinese yo-yo, etc.  Complete list is available tomorrow.

Objectives: Students will review lesson 2 and lesson 3. 

H/W: 1) Read ReviewSounds #1 packet.  2) Read textbook p14.

Procedure:

1.                  1) Turn in your H/W (Two characters: , ).  2) Study ReviewSounds #1 while Ms. Chang checks your WB pages 17-19.

2.                  (9P only)  Review classroom phrases on textbook p. 14.

3.                  (9P only) Check answer key to page 1/3/4.

4.                  Check answer key to page 17/18/19.

5.                  Matching activity.

6.                  Work on WB page 21 as a class.

7.         (2P only) Read ReviewSounds #1 packet.  Speaking quiz next week.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Procedure for MS 3P/5P (11/11/08)

 Procedure:

  1. Check H/W: index cards with colored strips.
  2. 1) Take makeup quiz, if any.  2) Finish origami products, if any.  3) Return quiz papers/homework papers.  4) Quiz next Monday (colors and sentences).
  3. Reteach colors and new sentence patterns.
  4. Informal assessment (white, green, pink).

H/W: 1) memorize 3 more colors (red, blue, and purple).

1.      (1) Take 1 set of rubric (skit and multimedia project).  (2) Feedback from Mrs. Moseley’s presentation?  (3) Questions on report card?  (5) Check your grades on Grade Viewer periodically, please.  (6) Quiz #6 Part II this Wednesday.  (7) Conference this Thursday (recommendations/confirmation).  8) Skit: this Friday / next Monday?

Objectives: Students will review lesson 2 and lesson 3.

Procedure:

(1) Take 1 set of stroke order for Lesson 3.  (2) Ms. Chang checks your H/W: WB pages 1, 2, & 4 and students check the correctness.  (3) Feedback from Mrs. Moseley’s presentation?  (4) Questions on report card?  (5) Check your grades on Grade Viewer periodically.  (6) Conference this Thursday (recommendations/confirmation).  (7) Start review today.  More to come tomorrow.

Objective: Students will learn colors and make new sentence patterns.

Procedure:

1.                  Check H/W: index cards with colored strips. 

2.                  Students take makeup test, if any.  Make up origami projects, if any.

3.                  (1) Pass back quiz papers/homework papers.  (2) Quiz next Monday on colors and sentences.  (3) Check website for your grades periodically.

4.                  Monday sharing. 

5.         (3P only)  Teach colors and sentence pattern (I like … color, I like … color the best).  Pair practice.

Objectives: Students will understand their language skills will enhance/expand their future job opportunities.

Procedure:

1.                  Presentation: guest speaker (Mrs. Moseley).

 

HW: WB pages 1, 3, and 4 (Chinese I students only).

 

MS 3P/5P (46/50 minutes)

Procedure:

1.                  Quick review before quiz.

2.                  Quiz.

3.                  Pass out color strips for unit 4 (colors).

4.                  Finish up origami products (gift box and pinwheel).  Collect for participation grades.

 

H/W: Make 10 index cards over the weekend.

2. Continue the vocabulary recognition activity. 1) Assemble a paragraph. 2) Sound out the paragraph.

Procedure for HS 1P (11/5/08)

Objectives: Students will construct and sound out a paragraph through listening activity.

H/W: 1) One row/new vocabulary.  2) WB p.10.

Procedure:

1.  1) Turn in your H/W.  Get another copy of square paper for tonight.  2) Chinese painting art work is in showcase.  3) Skit due next Friday.  Skit cards will be available next Monday.  4) Start thinking about a cultural project (Chinese chess, yo-yo, Go, Ma-Jiang, TaiJiquan, kite, cutting papers, origami, …).  Due on 11/21; presentation on 11/24 and 11/25.   

2.  1) Go over Classroom participation slip and the article of “By the Numbers”.  2) Quick reminder (你去…=> demanding)

3.  Quick Quiz (recognize characters, write, and read sentences). 

4.  Activity: Recognize characters (listening, reading, & speaking).

 

Procedure for HS 2P/9P

Objective: Students will review all common classroom expressions.  2) Students will compare pictographic Chinese characters.

H/W: practice writing all phrases and vocabulary, and review WB 10, 12, 13 for quiz tomorrow.

Procedure:

 

1.      1) (9P only) Turn in your vocabulary H/W.  2) Go over the answer key to your WB pages 10/12/13 (2P) 10/12 (9P). 

2.      Quick quiz (9P only).  Work on WB page 13 and check your answers.

3.      Activity: Recognize the development of Chinese characters (from pictures, old fashioned to current ones.

4.      Go over quiz sample questions.

 

 

Procedure for MS 3P/5P

Procedure:

  1. Review all terms (family members, ge ren, sui, jia, you, liang, han, nian, yue, ri).
  2. Go over sample quiz questions (matching, making 2 sentences) for quiz this Friday.
  3. Pass back students’ 5-6 sentences.  Check your work.
  4. Construct 1-2 more sentences (phone numbers and address).  Add to your draft.
  5. Origami (5P only).

H./W: review for quiz this Friday.

Objectives: Students will use action words to describe their daily routine.

 

H/W: 1) One row for each new character.  2) Study textbook pages 21-23 for sentence patterns.  2) Sound out loud textbook pages 15-18. 

 

Procedure:

1.                  1) Turn in your H/W.  2) Take one copy of Participation Rubric and Supplementary Materials for Lesson 2. 

2.                  1) Review characters.  2) 5 minutes—4 students for quiz (listening, reading sentences, and writing).

3.                  1) Listen to CD: work on workbook pages 9 & 11.  2) Check your answers. 

4.                  Model more new vocabulary. 

 

 

 

 

Procedure for HS 2P/9P (11/4/08)

 

Objective: Students will be able to say/write all greetings.

 

H/W: 1) (2P) Workbook pgs. 10, 12, & 13.  (9P) One row for each new vocabulary and WB pages 10/12.  (2) Random drawing tomorrow again.

Procedure:

1.                  Turn in your H/W.    

2.                  1) Dictation.  2) 5 minutes—random drawing for reading sentences on the board.

3.                  Reteach/Practice (起立Qǐ Lì—stand up, 敬禮Jìng Lǐ—Bow, 坐下Zuò Xià—sit down).  Record in your notebook. 

4.         (9P ONLY) Finish up all vocabulary   <      /   >

5.         Listen to CD and work on workbook page 9.  Listen to/follow along CD Lesson 2. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Procedures for MS 3P/5P (11/4/08)

1.  Check Homework index cards.

2.  Review all 14 terms.  Informal Assessment agian.

3.  Read your senttences to the class.  Check your speaking/listening comprehension skills.

4.  Teach one more sentence structure (phone number).

5.  Contruct a paragraph of 6 six sentences and turn it in before the end of the period.

H/W: Review for quiz on Friday.

Procedures and Homework Assignments for 11/3/08

Procedure for HS 1P (11/3/08)

 

Objective: Students will be able to construct a paragraph to describe their daily routine.

Procedure:

1.      (1) Turn in your H/W if you have not.  (2) Guest speaker (Mrs. Moseley) this Friday.  (3) Quiz Part II next Monday (writing, reading/listening comprehension).  (4) Bring in your workbook tomorrow.  (5) Need to know grades?  Talk to Ms. Chang after the class.  (6) New bulletin boards are coming for weekly homework assignments and objectives.  I will eventually write everything in Chinese.  7) Clean, washed socks needed!!        

2. Go over grading policy (only one day for late work with 50% credit, turn in at the beginning of the day, not working on it in the class) and participation slip (Use Mandarin Chinese more, reduce chatting/doodling in the class, bring in all materials—they all count for your grades.  It was 10 points in the first quarter, but will be 30 points in the 2nd quarter).  One pop quiz format homework grade each week to see you can read, speak, and write in Chinese.  Each day 4 random students take this quiz.  Ms. Chang won’t remind you of any missed work any more and she wants to have more activities, but you have to prepare yourself to get familiar with characters! –Study 30 minutes every day.
