Procedures and Homework Assignments for 12/1/08

Procedure for HS 1P (12/1/08)

Objectives: 1) Students will complete their cultural project presentation. 2) Students will review the sentence pattern “他是誰?” through a group activity.

H/W: Read Lesson 3 page 29 fluently.

Procedure:

1. 1) Art project: a PPT or poster w/oral presentation on 12/17, 12/18, and 12/19 (last day of school). It’s about your family/house layout—using all terms and directions with a real or imaginary floor plan. Due on 12/17 with your submission before the beginning of our class. 2) Quiz on Lesson 4 on 12/15. 3) Mr. Rings will observe Ms. Chang’s teaching before 12/15.

2. Cultural Project Presentation (Raymond, Chris, Don, Candace, Kristine).

3. Review sentence pattern “他是誰? 她是誰?”. Group activity completes on Friday for bonus points. This is a 2006 painting by Dai Dudu, Li Tiezi, and Zhang An named “Discussing the Divine Comedy with Dante”. It contains some of the most influential people throughout time. How many can you name?

4. Monday sharing.

5.   Previewing Lesson 4/Study Strategies. Read page 29.

Procedure for HS 2P/9P (12/1/08)

Objectives: 1) Students will be able to sight read sentences noted in Hanyu Pinyin. 2) Students will learn/pronounce classmates’ Chinese name. 3) Students will review the sentence patterns “他是誰? 她是誰?” through a group activity.

H/W: Practice reading Review Sounds #2.

Procedure:

1. 1) Get 3 handouts: 2 for Lesson 5 vocabulary stroke order and 1 Review Sounds #2. 2) Oral quiz on Review Sounds #2 on 12/17 and 12/18. 3) Art project: think of a theme and use at least 12 learned terms to draw corresponding pictures on a 10.5’ by 18.5’ paper. Due at the beginning of class on 12/15. Projects with excellent quality and creativity will be put in Foreign Language Department’s showcase!! 4) Quiz on Lesson 5 on 12/15. 5) Mr. Rings will observe Ms. Chang’s teaching before 12/15.

2. Guest speaker, Mr. Shi, introduces Ohio K-12 Chinese Flagship at OSU and summer immersion program (9P only).

3. Take turns introducing everyone’s Chinese name. Practice.

4. Read Review Sounds #2 sentences #1 to #5 as a class.

6.   Previewing Lesson 5/ Study Strategies

Procedure for MS 3P/5P

Objectives: 1) Students and teacher get to know one another.  2) Introduction of classroom expectations.

1.  Pass out class list.  Sit on your assigned seat.

2.  Work on Student Inventory sheet.  Collect.

3.  Pass out/Go over Ms. Chang’s Classroom Rules and Grading Policy.

4.  Introduction.

5.  Teach 5 terms/tone marks.

H/W: 1) Classroom Rules Slip signed by a parent.  2) Make 12 index cards.
