Procedures and Homework Assignments for 1/30/09

Procedure for HS 1P (1/30)

Objectives: 1) Students will prepare all index cards for next week’s lesson. 2) Students view portion of the movie “Joy Luck Club” to understand various aspects of Chinese cultures (leisure time activity, family structure, history, etc).

Procedure:

1. 1) Check your index card H/W. 2) Oral quiz next Tuesday (2/3)!!

2. Prepare 2 sets of index cards (one for you and one for your classmate.) 11 colors/set.

Objectives: 1) Student will introduce their family to their peers by reading out loud their paragraph. 2) Students will review Lesson 6 for their quiz on next Tuesday (2/3/09).

Objectives: 1) Students will finish the unit of basic greetings. 2) Students will start to learn the geography and history about China.

3. Brainstorm a skit. Write out the script with your partnerr. Highlight your part. Present it next Monday.

Procedure for HS 1P (1/27/09)

Objectives: 1) Students will learn terms about colors and types of clothes.2) Students will be able to describe how the clothes fit and state they are looking for something in particular.

Procedure:

1. 1) Scheduling consultation starting from next Tuesday. Ms. Chang will the last 5-7 minutes to talk to students about next year’s intention. 2) Take handout for new character list. 3) Bring in your workbook tomorrow for listening activity.

2. Supplementary information: 1) textbook page 13: Spring couplet (chūnlián) is read as “臘梅送舊歲, 瑞雪迎新春” (Làméi sòng jiùsuì, ruìxuě yíng xīnchūn), which means “Plum flowers send off the old year and auspicious snow welcomes the new spring as Elegant Luxury gift boxes or others.” 2) Textbook page 14: Spring couplet is read as “萬事如意, 恭喜吉祥” (Wànshì rúyì, gōngxǐ jíxiáng), which means “Best wishes for everything, congratulations on your good luck.”3) Explanation of riddles on page 40.

3. Reading time: read textbook pages 29-31. Teach one supplementary character ().

Procedure:

1. 1) Part II quiz for Lesson 3 Part II is this Friday (1/30). 2) State assessor (Dr. Rita Stroempl) comes on 2/2/09 at 1P to observe/evaluate Ms. Chang’s teaching. 3) Change seats for 3rd quarter?

2. Monday sharing.

3. Read textbook pages 13-14. Quick review of Chinese New Year’s traditions 1) cleaning, 2) feast, 3) red envelope, 4) door scrolls, 5) fire cracker, lion dancing, dragon dancing.

4. Review DVD “Chinese New Year Around the World”.
