Procedures and Homework Assignments for 1/26/09

Procedure for HS 1P (1/26/09)

Objectives: 1) Students will celebrate Chinese New Year. 2) Students will review the common practices taken during the Chinese New Year.

功課H/W: Read/review Lesson 3 for Part II quiz (oral reading from randomly selected text)

Procedure:

1. 1) Part II quiz for Lesson 3 Part II is this Friday (1/30). 2) State assessor (Dr. Rita Stroempl) comes on 2/2/09 at 1P to observe/evaluate Ms. Chang’s teaching. 3) Change seats for 3rd quarter?

2. Monday sharing.

3. Read textbook pages 13-14. Quick review of Chinese New Year’s traditions 1) cleaning, 2) feast, 3) red envelope, 4) door scrolls, 5) fire cracker, lion dancing, dragon dancing.

4. Review DVD “Chinese New Year Around the World”.

Procedure for HS 2P/9P (1/26/09)

Objectives: 1) Students will celebrate Chinese New Year. 2) Students will gain knowledge about common practices taken during the Chinese New Year.

H/W: Review Lesson 6 for quiz.

Procedure:

1. 1) Quiz for Lesson 6 is this Friday (1/30). 2) State assessor (Dr. Rita Stroempl) comes on 2/2/09 at 1P to observe/evaluate Ms. Chang’s teaching. Another teacher will cover for Ms. Chang at 2P that day. View DVD in classroom or at media center? 3) Change seats for 3rd quarter?

3. Read excerpt and view video clip from History channel.

4. Review DVD “Chinese New Year Around the World”.

Procedure for MS 3P/5P (1/26/09)

Objectives: 1) Students and teacher know one another.  2) Students learn the classroom expectations.  3) Introduction to basic Chinese greetings.

H/W: 1) Signature on the slip from the parent.  2) Student Inventory.

Procedure:

1) Pass out class list, Student Inventory, and Classroom Rules.

2) Go over all papers.

3) Ms. Chang introduce herself to the students.

4) Ice breaking activity–students introduce themselves to one another.

5) Basic greetings and tone marks (3P only).
