Procedures and Homework Assignments for 1/12/09

Procedure for HS 1P (1/12/09)

Objective: Students will review learned character w/corresponding meaning and pinyin.

H/W: 1) Complete the last 3 sentences. 2) Review learned characters.

Procedure:

  1. 1) Turn in your 3 H/W (characters, Field Trip Questions, 5 sentences). Take one square paper for H/W tonight. 2) Big thanks to Jim Niedinger. A major mistake was fixed. 3) Ms. Chang will talk to individuals regarding status of last week assignments/last quarter’s missed quizzes???. Have to pass 2 out 3 criteria to pass in any subject. 4) Turn in your completed accurate sentences for semester exam (writing section) this Friday. 5) Write on two thank you cards during the last 10 minutes of the class. Meanwhile, Ms. Chang returns change to you/takes money from unpaid lunch, if needed. 6) Be sure let Ms. Chang your interest of applying for Study Abroad program by the end of this week. 7) Mini celebration of Chinese New Year on 1/26/09—Don’s Chinese Go/Chinese chess/Ma-Jiang activities; presentation given by Kim’s older brother, Andy; Chinese Jiao-Zi, etc).
  2. Monday sharing.

  4. Sample multiple (sports, family members, professions, days).

Procedure for HS 2P/9P (1/12/09)

Objectives: Students will review sentence patterns.

H/W: Practice writing sentence pattern.

Procedure:

  1. 1) Turn in your H/W (Field Trip Questions) for those went on the trip. Take one square paper for H/W tonight. 2) Check your Gradebook for accuracy. 3) Ms. Chang will talk to individuals regarding status of weekly assignments/last quarter’s missed quizzes???. Have to pass 2 out 3 criteria to pass in any subject. 4) Writing section of your semester exam is conducted this Friday. 5) Write on two thank you cards during the last 10 minutes of the class. 3. Pass out 4 handouts (sports, Chinese zodiac). Review Chinese zodiac calendar.

4.  Complete/collect last 2 sentences (5P only).

Objectives: Students will gain knowledge about China’s one child policy and its impact through viewing a documentary DVD.

H/W: Review all 11 colors, date and supplementary terms.

Procedure:

1. Quiz on 1/12/09 for colors, date terms, supplementary terms (, ).

2. Watch DVD “China’s Lost Girls”.

H/W: 1) Write one row for each new character. Memorize new characters. 2) Your draft of 5 sentences.

Procedure:

1. 1) Take one copy of square paper. Turn in your character H/W. 2) Have your good clothes on tomorrow. Go over itinerary tomorrow.

Procedure:

1. Return your draft #2. Review and check.

2. 1) Watch a video tomorrow w/Mr. Goodman and Ms. Brown. 2) Quiz on 1/12/09 and make up quiz for students who go on a field trip (Great Lake Science Center) on 1/13/09.

3. Quick review of all 11 colors. Informal assessment.

4. Teach 6 direction terms. Divide students into pairs (3P) or groups of 4 (5P). Practice. Pick out representatives from each group. Game time.

Objectives: 1) Students will work on their semester exam writing section/pen pal project. 2) Students will continue Lesson 3.

Procedure:

1. 1) Report to your 3rd period class and come up to lobby before 9:25. Our bus driver’s name is Mr. Memmer. Address him when you get on/off the school bus. 2) Your New Year’s Resolutions will be returned for your reflection again at the end of the school year in mid June.

2. Model new characters (, , , , ).

3. Read text pages 29-31 as a class. Preview on page 32.

4. Go over sentence patterns for Semester Exam: Writing Section. Write your draft. Turn in the first five sentences tomorrow.

Objectives: 1) Students will review sentence patterns. 2) Students will continue Lesson 6.

H/W: 1) Write one row for each new character. Memorize new characters. 2) Practice writing sentence pattern.

Procedure:

  1. 1) Take one square paper for H/W today. 2) Turn in your characters H/W. 3) Pass around the list to write down your e-mail address. Ms. Chang sends out e-mails for instructional and communicational purposes. 4) Report to your 3rd period class and come up to lobby before 9:25. Our bus driver’s name is Mr. Memmer. 2.  Informal assessment.

3.  Teach 3 more colors and 3 more supplementary terms (xi, huan, zui).

4.  Construct one sentence (I like … color).  Collect your draft of four sentences.

5.  Prepare for the game (Pin the tail on the donkey) for tomorrow.  Divide into groups of 4.  Write the names of the group members.  Teach 4 terms (up, down, left, right) — 5P only.
