Procedures and Homework Assignments for 2/27/09

Procedure for HS 1P (2/27/09)

Objectives: 1) Students will work on their letter to the pen pal in China. 2) Students will review verbs.

功課: Finalize your letters (pictures and drawings).

Procedure:

1. 1) Check your H/W (2 copies of letters). 2) Audacity program issue.

2. Continue the Verbs handout.

3. Pair activity: make 10 sentences with learned verbs (at least 5 characters per sentence). Collect.

4. 1) Charades game. 2) 10 questions, if time allows.

Procedure for HS 2P/5P (2/27/09)

Objectives: 1) Students will finish up their PowerPoint presentation. 2) Students will continue to learn characters in lesson 8. 3) Students will review Chinese terms through a guessing game activity.

功課: Review lesson 8 all characters/phrases.

Procedure:

1. 1) Check your H/W WB pages. 2) Check key to the WB pages. 3) Audacity program issue.

Objective: Students will learn Chinese terms for body parts through two games.

H/W: Bring in your art supplies and/or index cards.

Procedure:

1. Art project due in class next Monday.

2. Practice your oral presentation with another partner.

3. Review terms for body parts. Song time (Head and shoulder, Knee, and Toes).

4. Game time (Simon Says, Who’s the Leader, 20 questions).

Procedure for HS 1P (2/26/09)

Objectives: 1) Students will work on their letter to the pen pals in China. 2) Students will review verbs.

H/W: Get two pictures (school pictures, etc) of yourself.

Procedure:

1. 1) Get two colored papers. 2) Class pictures will be taken tomorrow.

2. Go over Verbs handout. Make sentences.

3. Make two copies of your composition in the semester exam. Design background with your favorite artwork. Two copies will be counted as class participation grades. One copy is sent out to the Hubei Foreign School and one copy will be showcased in the bulletin board for Chinese I students and guests to review. Collect at the end.

4. Dictation (?), if time allows.

Objectives: 1) Students will finish up their PowerPoint presentation. 2) Students will review lesson 8.

H/W: Workbook pages (49 Section A, 50 Section C and 51 Sec. D).

Procedure for HS 1P (2/25/09)

Objectives: 1) Students will utilize the audacity program to record their text passage and improve their pronunciation. 2) Students will utilize a few good website resources to learn Chinese enrichment materials.

功課: N/A

Procedure:

1. 1) Take one Websites slip. 2) Take one copy of Lesson 4 Text passage/Audacity Program Instruction sheet, if needed. 3) Draw two sticks to decide which two passages you need to record.

2. Follow the Audacity Program Instruction sheet to complete your task. Good luck and have fun surfing the websites.

Procedure for HS 2P/9P (2/25/09)

Objectives: 1) Students will utilize the audacity program to record their text passage and improve their pronunciation. 2) Students will utilize a few good website resources to learn Chinese enrichment materials.

Procedure:

  1. 1) Take one Websites slip. 2) Take one copy of Lesson 8 Text passage/Audacity Program Instruction sheet, if needed. 3) Make sure you record 8 country terms and draw one stick to decide which page (67 or 68) you need to read/record.

Procedure for MS 3P/5P (2/25/09)

Objectives: 1) Students will learn Chinese terms for body parts today. 2) Students will finish up the Animals handout and complete their last 3 sentences for their oral presentation.

H/W: Memorize the body parts.

Procedure:

1. 1) Pass out the body part handout. 2) Makeup test, if any.

2. Finish up the Animals handout.

3. Teach new terms (zui, xihuan) and the last three sentence patterns (I zui xi huan … colors, I zui xi huan … sports, I zui xi huan ….. animals).

4. Students construct their last three sentences. Collect (draft #1 and the 3 new sentences).

5. Go over major body parts (head, hair, eye, eyebrow, nose, mouth, ears, hand, leg, feet, shoulder, knee…). Prepare for tomorrow games (Simon says, Who’s the leader).

6. Singing time: “Head/Shoulder/Knee/Toe.”

Objectives: 1) Students will gain knowledge about Chinese tea (history, ceremony, etc.). 2) Students will learn how to use audacity program to record their text passages. 3) Students will review various types of verbs.

Objective: 1) Students will play a game to familiarize themselves with the direction terms. 2) Students will learn animal terms and sentence pattern for their oral presentation.

H/W: Complete three sentences.

Procedure:

1. Makeup quiz, if any.

2. Pass out the animals handout. Go over the terms for animals.

3. Teach new terms (zui, xihuan) and the last three sentence patterns (I like … color; I like …animals; I like …. Sports).

4. Review direction terms.

Prepare questions for him, please. 3) All makeup work/test are due the end of today.

  4. Charades game. Divide into 2/3 groups. Come up with questions and everyone needs to perform to play. Students who have missed work will use this time to complete.

Procedure for MS 3P/5P (2/19/09)

Objectives: 1) Students will be able to write/say their birthday in Chinese today. 2) Students

H/W: 1) Memorize all 4 supplementary terms. 2) Complete 7 sentences.

Procedure:

1. 1) All makeup quiz/work are due today. 2) Assign helpers for students who were absent yesterday. Helpers will teach absent students two sentence patterns (phone # and address).

2. Informal assessment (all 11 colors).

3. Teach supplementary terms (birthday day, year, month, day). Take notes. Pair practice.

4. Compare/Contrast American/Chinese formats for date.

5. Teach 7th sentence pattern. Construct 7th sentence. Collect tomorrow.

6. Pass out handouts (animals, sports). Talk about preferences of colors, sports and animals for future 3 sentences.
