Procedures and Homework Assignments for 2/2/09

rocedure for HS 1P (2/2/09)

Objectives: 1) Students will share with peers what they do over the weekend in Chinese. 2) Students will practice characters learn in lesson 3. 3) Students will sound out terms for colors and learn characters for colors. 4) Students will practice reading Lesson 3 Text, if time allows.

功課: 1) 生字 (shēngzì) 一行 (yīháng). 2) Study for your oral quiz. 3) Memorize 6 colors (white, green, blue, black, red, purple).


1. 1) Take one H/W paper, character list and passage slip. 2) Oral quiz (2 passages from lesson 3 text) tomorrow. Simple rubric is used for grading. 3) Scheduling consultation starts tomorrow.

2. Monday sharing.

3. Dictation. Try on dry erase board.

4. Pass out flash cards. Sound out all colors (白色, 黑色, 綠色, 藍色, 紫色, 紅色, 棕色 = 咖啡色, 黃色, 橙色 = 橘色, 灰色, 粉紅色).

5. Floor plan activity. Pairs assigned by Ms. Chang.

6. Model new characters (, , ).

7. Students volunteer to read the Lesson 3 text.

Procedure for HS 2P (2/2/09)

Objectives: 1) Students will review study guide for quiz tomorrow. 2) Students will view “Joy Luck Club” and look for various Chinese cultural aspects in the movie.

H/W: 1) Review study guide for quiz tomorrow. 2) Movie question slip—turn in on Wednesday for bonus points.


1. 1) Turn in your H/W. 2) Return all papers. Write Chinese name for H/W credit! 3) Pass out 2 slips: sample question slip and movie question slip. 4) Scheduling consultation starts tomorrow. 5) Monday sharing postpones to tomorrow, if time allows.

2. 10-15 minutes for pair discussion for quiz tomorrow, if needed (?).

3. DVD “Joy Luck Club”. Pay attention to family structure, parent/children relationship, leisure activity, historical background, etc.

Procedure for HS 9P (2/2/09)

Objectives: 1) Students will review sample questions for quiz tomorrow. 2) Students will be able to talk about pets/animals and describe their pets.

H/W: Review Lesson 6 for quiz tomorrow.


1. 1) Turn in your H/W. 2) Take one sample question slip. 3) Return all papers. Write Chinese name for H/W credit!

2. Pair discussion for quiz tomorrow. 15 minutes.

3. Quick Monday sharing.

4. Read page 54 Lesson 7 text.

5.    Model new characters (, ), if time allows.

Procedure for MS 3P/5P (2/2/09)

Objectives: 1) Students will know the relative location of all major cities. 2) Students will gain basic geographic knowledge about China. 3) Students will have a chance to know what their peer did over the weekend.

H/W: FInalize your skit.


1. Quick review of all 12 greetings terms.

2. Quiz.

3. Monday sharing.

4. Pairs working on reading packet. Complete questions 1 to 10.

5. Label major cities on the map. Say its significance.

6. View movie “China” (3P only).
