Procedure for HS 1P/2P/9P (4/9/09)

Objective: Students will learn Chinese history/cultural ideology through reading literature excerpt, watching movie clips and engaging in a class discussion.

H/W: N/A


1. 1) Turn in your character H/W. 2) Opening introduction.

Pay attention to cultural heritage and historical events, especially woman’s role in family and marriage. In China, strength of character was built through respect for elders.

2. Get a copy of The Joy Luck Club. Read the following excerpts (p. 19: first 3 paragraphs, p. 20: first 2 paragraphs, entire page 26, p. 37: the 6th paragraph. P39-41, p. 132: first 3 paragraphs, p. 137: 2nd paragraph, the entire p. 138, p. 139: last paragraph

3. Watch movie clips.

4. Introduction/Class discussion.

Procedure for MS 3P/5P (4/9/09)

Objectives: 1) Students will practice their draft for oral presentation. 2) Students will acquire terms for body parts through various activities. 3) Students will learn Chinese culture through reading.

H/W: N/A


1. Return all papers (quiz, draft).

2. Pair practice.

3. Cultural reading.

4. Show and tell: Chinese artifacts.

5. (5P only) Review terms for body parts.

6. Song time/game time.
