Procedures for 12/10/09

HS 1P/9P (12/10/09)

Objectives: Students will learn sentence patterns to introduce family members.

Homework: One row for each new character (, , , , , , ). Due next Monday.


1. 1) Turn in your homework of describing your family members. 2) Sample family picture. 3) Question (/, pronunciation of ge)?

2. Read text pages 47.

No possessives are needed when the term is used as a subject.

Use 我家instead of 我的家. Use 我爸爸 instead of 爸爸.

No articles are needed in Chinese.

他是老師 (not like English: He is a teacher => not 他是一個老師).

No shi is needed before age!

3. Teach new characters (, , , ).

4. Edit your paragraph about your family members (family tree diagram w/name and age and profession, 3 sentences for each member). Collect at the end of the class.

HS 2P (12/10/09)

Objectives: 1) Chinese II students will be familiar with sentence patterns describing relative position of all room in a house. 2) Chinese III students will be comfortable reading direction instructions in finding their way around the building.

Homework: 1) Chinese II students: finalize your floor plan project/script. 2) Chinese III students: get familiar with all terms for reading directions/classrooms in a building.


1. Chinese II: 1) Quick review. 2) The following students set up an appointment w/Ms. Chang. Some minor/major discrepancies in your audacity files (Kevin, Sarah, Brianna, Kay Leigh, Victoria, Zachary, Lauren). 3) Quiz. 4) Check/return your audacity grade slip. Free time if you are done.

2. Chinese III: 1) Take one copy of sample direction instructions. 2) Independent/pair study: work on direction instructions.

MS 3P/5P (12/10/09)

Objectives: 1) Students will practice Chinese folk arts of paper cutting (longevity and double happiness). 2) Students will finish up basic greetings unit.

Homework: Study for quiz #1.


1. Quick review of all learned terms.

2. Teach new terms (lao shi, tong xue men, dong le ma).

3. (3P) Culture reading (pgs. 5/6) and check out traditional/contemporary publications.

4. Culture reading (birthday celebrations; lucky and unlucky numbers
