Procedures for 12/4/09

HS 1P/2P/9P (12/4/09)

Objective: Students will gain historical knowledge about China through a DVD viewing.

Homework: 1) 5-sentence paragraph. 2) Study your passages for audacity on next Monday.

Procedure:

1. 1) Take one copy of Great Periods in China’s History and a DVD summary handout. 2) Ms. Chang returns all papers.

2. (1P/2P only) 1) Feedback from listening to the speech? 2) Write on a Thank You card.

3. (1P only) Model/Explain common character assignment mistakes.

4. (Chinese III) 1) Show Ms. Chang your workbook pages. 2) Read Dana’s e-mail if you are interested.

5. (9P only) 1) Turn in your character assignment. 2) Flashcard activity. 3) Culture reading: text pages 52-53.

6. DVD viewing: “China: From Past to Present: The Silk Road, the Great Wall, and Changes in Government”.

MS3P/5P (12/4/09)

Objectives: 1) (5P only) Students examine former empires in China. 2) Students continue to learn basic greetings.

Homework: 5-sentence paragraph.

Procedure:

1. Quick review.

2. Teach new terms (Zao, Zao An, Ni Zao, Wu An, Wan An).

3. Complete reading packet. Label major cities on the map/explain their significance. Collect at the end of class.

Objectives: Given a speech by our guest speaker, students will understand the advantages of knowing Chinese in this global community. Students will also learn study strategies and know cultural differences between China and America.

1. 1) Chinese II students turn in your character homework. Chinese III students turn in your WB for Ms. Chang to check. 2) Return all papers. 3) Welcome our guest speaker, Ms. Kim Kirkendall.

4. Pair practice Review Sounds #2/Lesson 5 text passages for next Monday’s audacity.

Objectives: 1) Students will gain general information about China through viewing a DVD. 2) Students will gain geographical information about China through reading a reading packet.

Procedure:

1. 1) Collect any overdue signature slips. 2) Quick review (Ni Hao, Ni Shi, Wo Shi, Xie Xie, Bu Xie/Bu Ke Qi, Zai Jian).

Objectives: 1) Chinese II students will review direction terms through a Pin the Tail on the Donkey game, a Macarena dance, and a matching activity. 2) Chinese III students will review terms for various parts in a school building and various subjects.

Homework: 1) 中文二: 生字一行 (, , , , , ). 2) 中文三: WB pages 7/11.

Procedure:

1. Turn in your character homework.

2. 中文二: 1) Take one copy of checklist for Lesson Three Floor Plan presentation. 2) Go over the checklist. Objective: Students will be able to introduce their family or to talk about their family.

Procedure:

1. 1) Take one set of Lesson Six character list, Review Sounds #2, and Lesson Five text handouts. 2) Return 5-sentence paragraph and quiz paper for review. Collect your quiz paper. 3) Audacity on next Monday (12/7), covering Lesson Five text and two randomly picked Review Sounds #1 sentences. You will draw your sticks on next Monday morning. 4) Need a family picture for Lesson Six. Oral presentation will be completed before winter break.
