Procedures for 1/27/10

HS 1P/9P (1/27/10)

Objectives: 1) Students will be able to talk about their pets with descriptive words. 2) Students will practice conversation questions.

Homework: 1) One row for each new character. 2) Read text pages 54-55 (1P) or 54-56 (9P).

Procedure:

1. 1) Lesson 7 quiz is on 2/4/10. Audacity is on 2/8/10. 2) Go over new topic for 5-sentence paragraph – describe a person (age, name, profession, physical appearance, characters, etc). Due next Monday (2/1/10). 3) Ms. Chang is not available after school. Mr. Black will use this classroom for his football players.

2. (1P) 1) Teach new characters (, , , , ). Turn in 9 characters tomorrow. Double weights. 2) Read text pages 54-55. 3) Work on sentences about your pets (what pets, name, description). 4) Conversation questions. 5) Listening to the song on text page 61.

3. (9P) 1) Turn in your character assignment. Ms. Chang returns papers. 2) Teach new characters (, , 跑, 來, 去). 3) Pair activity: read your sentences (name, age, family members, professions, pets, etc). 4) Make terms (, , , w/, , ). 5) Read text 54-56. 6) Go over Lesson 7 Supplementary Materials handout.

HS 2P (1/27/10)

Objectives: 1) Chinese II students will be able to talk about clothing, including colors and types of clothes. 2) Chinese III students will be able to talk about modes of transportation and what they use in commune between school/home.

Homework: 1) Chinese II: WB page 33. Memorize terms for colors and clothes items. 2) Chinese III: WB pages 16-17. Memorize terms for transportation vehicles and adverbs for time modifiers.

Procedure:

1. 1) Turn in your character assignment & sentences (Chinese III). 2) Go over new topic for 5-sentence paragraph – describe a person (age, name, profession, physical appearance, characters, etc). Due on next Monday (2/1/10). 3) 4) Ms. Chang is not available after school. Mr. Black will use this classroom for his football players. 4) Return papers.

2. Chinese II: 1) Independent study: read text page 43, study text page 50 for sentence pattern (有沒有), complete WB page homework, & . 2) Informal assessment (flash cards). 3) Model common mistakes in character assignment. 4) Read text page 43 as a class.

3. Chinese III: 1) Go over major cities in China/USA. 2) Practice dialogue w/chart. 3) Conversation questions. 4) Go over text page 18-19 again.. 5) Independent study: read text page 18-19 & work on WB pages. 5) 1st draft of your pen pal letter is due on next Friday (2/5). Minimum 25 sentences. Topics include (your Chinese/English names, age, grade, members of your family (including pets), your physical appearance/descriptions, your parents’ professions, your preferences of color/food/clothes/sports/music/subject at school, your hobbies/interests, extra-curricular activities, the courses you take this year, your commune to school, your part-time job, introduction of your city—weather, description of your hours, etc).

MS 3P/5P (1/27/10)

Objectives: Students will continue learning basic greetings and learn about historical, geographical knowledge about China.

Homework: Review all six (Ni Hao, Ni Shi, Wo Shi).

Procedure:

1. 1) Collect Students Inventory and Signature slip, if any. 2) Get team assignment from 3P class.

2. Go over Ms. Chang’s Grading policy.

3. Pass out / Go over Hanyu Pinyin handout.

4. Introduce Basic Greetings terms. Teach (Ni Hao, Wo Shi, Ni Shi). Pair practice terms.
