Procedures for 8/30/10

Homeroom (8/30/10)

Please share with your parents that do not load/unload you in the center lane, pick up/drop-off you in the curb lane only, and take/meet you at the entrance/exit closest your locker/class.

  • Revised bell schedule tomorrow (8/31/10) for navy band assemblies—double 8P.
  • Open house (9/1) 7-9PM—get ProgressBook parent access code from HR.
  • School pictures: 9/2
  • Football/Marching band concert at 7:30 PM on Friday, 9/3 vs. Medina at Bees Stadium.

Procedure for HS 1P (8/30/10)

Objectives: 1) Students build community through Monday sharing and interview presentation activities.  2) Students learn basic greetings.

Homework: Review Introduction to Pinyin handout and two terms (Ni Hao, Ni Shi) Procedure:

  1. 1) Turn in your signature slip.  2) Get a copy of class roster and a copy of Introduction to Hanyu Pinyin / Basic greetings (2-sided).  3) Welcome our new student, Claire Galmarini.  4) Abdussamad/Claire work together for your interview.
  2. Monday sharing (group activity).  Share your summer vacation among a group of four.  Collect.
  3. Pass out Ni Hao 1 textbooks and workbooks.  Write down name on WB immediately.  Sign your name on school textbook inventory for Ms. Chang, please.
  4. Go over Introduction to Hanyu Pinyin handout.  Use your highlighter, please.
  5. Teach two terms (Ni Hao, Ni Shi).

Procedure for HS 2P (8/30/10)

目標 (Mù Biāo): 1) Review date format and usage of ‘幾/几’.  2) Practice listening and speaking skills through a Monday sharing activity.

功課 (Gōng Kè): 1) One character (剛).  2) Study review material that MS. Chang e-mails daily.

程序 (Chéng Xù):

  1. 1) Turn in your signature slip.  2) Ms. Chang checks your Ni Hao 2 WB. 3) Take one copy of Lesson 8 character worksheet.  5) Participation grades start from tomorrow w/3 sentences first.  6) Reserve 9/20 for field trip #1 (11:30 or 2:45PM) at Yum Yum Express or Frankie to practice Lesson 8 Dining Out.  Vote!!!
  2. Monday sharing (class activity).  Present your 10-sentence paragraph.  Collect.
  3. Go over usage of “幾/几”.  Review Chinese date format
  4. Pass out Ni Hao 2 textbook and Ni Hao 3 WB.  Write down your name on WB immediately.  Sign your name on school textbook inventory, please.  Ni Hao 3 textbooks are hard bound now.  Will arrive within the next three weeks.
  5. Get Ni Hao 2 Lesson 8 Character worksheet.  Teach new character (剛).

Procedure for HS 9P (8/30/10)

Objectives: 1) Practice listening and speaking skills through a Monday sharing activity.  2) Learn Chinese date format.

Homework: 1) 4 characters.  2) Translate 3 dates into Chinese date format.

Procedure:

  1. 1) Turn in your signature slip.  2) Take one copy of class roster and a set of Lesson one character worksheet.  3) New Ni Hao 2 textbooks are being hard bound now.  Some students will get textbooks today, and some students will get a set of copied pages and get their textbook within the next few weeks.
    1. Monday sharing (group activity).  Present your 10-sentence paragraph.  Collect.
  2. Pass out Ni Hao 2 textbooks/temp copies. .
  3. Teach new characters (星, 期, 今, 號).
  4. Go over notes for date format.  Practice writing down three dates (Friday, 4/23/1998; Saturday, 11/9/2000; Sunday, 7/26/2005)

Objectives: 1) Students will practice speaking skill and know their classmates through a Monday sharing routine.  2) Students will continue to learn basic greetings.

Homework: Review learned terms (Ni Hao, Ni Shi, Wo Shi, Zai Jian, Lao Shi, Zao, Zao An, Ni Zao, Zao Shang Hao).

Procedure:

  1. 1) Turn in your signature slip.  2) Take one copy of four tone table.  3) Quiz #1: Tuesday, 9/7 (basic greetings).
  2. Monday sharing (group activity).  Collect.
  3. Review learned terms (Ni Hao, Wo Shi, Ni Shi, Zai Jian).
  4. Go over four tone table handout/topics
  5. Learn new terms (Lao Shi, Zao, Zao An, Ni Zao, Zao Shang Hao).
  6. Culture reading.

Procedure for MS 5P (8/30/10)

Objectives: 1) Students practice speaking skill and know their classmates through a Monday sharing routine.  2) Students will continue to learn basic greetings.

Homework: Review learned terms.

Procedure:

  1. 1) Turn in your signature slip.  2) Take one copy of four tone table.  3) Quiz #1, Tuesday, 9/7 (basic greetings).  4) Pass out Ni Hao 1 WB.  Write down your name immediately.  Textbooks are hard bound now.  Will pass out within the next few weeks.  5) Mac Chinese input (system preference, language, input menu to select desire ones—traditional and simplified in pinyin.
  2. Monday sharing (group activity).  Collect.
  3. Review learned terms (Ni Hao, Lao Shi, Zai Jian).  Learn new terms (Wo Shi, Ni Shi, Zao, Zao An, Ni Zao, Zao Shang Hao).

Objectives: Sharing study abroad programs/experiences and summer immersion activities.

Homework: 1) Turn in/Present your interview result on next Monday.  2) 10-sentence paragraph about your summer vacation.  Type and deliver it on next Monday.

Procedure:

  1. Turn in your signature slip, if available.  Due on next Monday.
  2. Presentation (Trey Rainey—NSLI-Y scholarship, Ben Genco—spring semester study abroad experience, Antonio—summer immersion camp).  Q/A session.

Objectives: 1) Sharing study abroad programs/experiences and summer immersion activities. 2) Review Chinese date format.

Homework: 1) Practice and present your oral presentation on next Monday.  2) Practice writing your Chinese name, if you forgot.  Can e-mail Ms. Chang for stroke order.  3) 10-sentence paragraph about your summer (in English).

Procedure:

  1. 1) Turn in your signature slip, if any.  It’s due on next Monday.  Turn in your typed interview result.  Turn in your matching sheet (English vs. Chinese names).  2) Open house: next Thursday, 9/1.  3) Starting from next Monday, write down your Chinese name on all papers.
  2. Presentation (Benita—summer immersion trip, Atonio—summer immersion camp).  Q/A session.

Procedure for MS 3P (8/27/10)

Objectives: 1) Build community.  2) Introduce basic Chinese phonetic system.

Homework: 5-sentence paragraph about your weekend.  Due on next Monday.

Procedure:

  1. 1) Collect signature slip, if any.  It’s due on next Monday.  2) Take one copy of Hanyu pinyin/Basic greetings handout.  3) Open house: Thursday, 9/9.  4) Write your class number on all papers.
  1. Review new terms (Ni Hao, Ni Shi, Wo Shi, Zai Jian).  Building community activity by practicing all four terms.

Procedure MS 5P (8/27/10)

Objectives: 1) Know your classmates through a presentation activity.  4) Know class expectations.  3) Learn pinyin system.

Homework: 10-sentence paragraph about your summer vacation.  Due on next Monday.

Procedure:

  1. 1) Turn in your signature slip, if any.  It’s due on next Monday.  2) Write your class number on all papers.  3) Open House: Wednesday, 9/15.  4) Take one pinyin/basic greetings handout.
  2. Review terms from yesterday (Ni Hao, Zia Jian, Lao Shi).  Dictation.
  3. Read study strategies from Chinese II class.
  4. Go over details (expectations, opening routine, class routine, supplies needed, website resources, grading policy, daily blog, etc): part II.  Showcase a binder.
  5. Continue interview presentation.
  6. Go over Introduction to Hanyu Pinyin /Basic greetings handout.
