Procedures for 10/13/10

No Chinese classes today.  Test day at HS.

Procedure for MS 3P (10/13/10)

Objectives: 1) Students will be able to learn more greeting terms.  2) Students will be able to gain historical and cultural knowledge about China.

Homework: Review all learned terms.

Procedure:

  1. Turn in your China reading packet.
  2. Review all learned terms (Ni Hao, Ni Shi, Wo Shi, Zai Jian, Zao, Zao An, Zao Shang Hao, Ni Zao, Wu An, Wan An, Zhang Lao Shi, Xie Xie, Bu Xie, Bu Ke Qi).
  3. Teach new terms (Dui Bu Qi, Mei Guan Xi).
  4. Culture reading: history, language and writing.
  5. Introduce/preview chopsticks practice for tomorrow.

Procedure for MS 5P (10/13/10)

Objectives: 1) Students will be able to learn Mandarin Chinese about weekend’s activities and gain geographic knowledge about Huang Shan through viewing two DVDs.  2) Students will gain reading fluency through reading Lesson Two passages.  3) Students will be able to review consonants for quiz tomorrow and practice/gain familiarity with compound vowels.

Homework: 1) Practice reading Lesson Two text passages (pages 7-9).  2) Study for last 7- consonant quiz tomorrow.

Procedure:

  1. Dictation (zh ch sh r c s z ai ao).
  2. Read Lesson Two text passages on pages 7-9.

Procedure for HS 1P (10/12/10)

Objectives: 1) Students will learn compound vowels.  2) Students will compare and contrast the Chinese and English name formats.  3) Students will gain reading fluency through reading Lesson Two text passages.

Homework: N/A

Procedure:

  1. 1) Come and get your Chinese name packet after 12:30 tomorrow.  2) Quiz #4 (15 MC on final group of consonants) is postponed to next Monday.  We will review on Thursday.
  2. Go over/Teach vowels (ai and ao).
  3. Culture reading: Read text passages on page 15 to compare and contrast Chinese and English name formats.
  4. Read text passages on pages 7-9.
  5. Introduce two website resources, http://student.nihaoseries.com/ & http://www.yellowbridge.com/chinese/flashcards.php.
  6. Introduce future plans (Chinese painting, typing Chinese characters and pinyin online, etc).

Objective: Students will be able to review learned materials through playing Ni Hao 1 and 2 interactive computer games.

Procedure:

Take one headset.  Go to P drive, click Ms. Chang’s folder.  Then click Ni Hao 1 or Ni Hao 2 (lessons 1 and 2 only) to review learned materials.  You can type in your name and period number to log in.

Objectives: 1) Students will redo Lesson Three audacity recording.  2) Students will gain cultural understanding about China through viewing BBC video clips.  3) Students will explore a website resource to read information about Pinyin and listen to the consonant pronunciation.

Homework: Review learned syllables and characters.

Procedure:

  1. 1) Take one microphone (if required) and one copy of procedure.  2) Ms. Chang checks WB.
  2. Make recording, if required.
  3. Log onto: 1) http://www.bbc.co.uk/languages/chinese/real_chinese/videos/start/ to view basic greetings and introduction to Chinese language and games; 2) second website resource: http://www.learnnc.org/lp/editions/mandarin1/contents to learn about Pinyin and initials.
  4. Go to P drive, click Ms. Chang’s folder, click Ni Hao 1 game.  Enter your name and HS 1P as your class.  Select lessons 1-3 and enjoy the review games.
