Procedure for HS 1P (3/24/11)

Objectives: 1) Students will be able to name various sports.  2) Students will be able to gain cultural / technical knowledge about Qing-Zang Highway in China.

Homework: Review all learned characters during spring break.

Procedure:

  1. 1) Quick review (籃球, 足球, 棒球).  2) Makeup work (Abby: WB page 54 + Lesson Nine character definitions; Abdussamad: Lesson Eight/Nine worksheets + audacity + chapter test + WB page 54).  3) Draw a number and change seats for 4th quarter.  5) Return papers.

  1. 1) Captains check your WB page 44.  Go over the answer key.  2) Makeup work (Anthony/Antonio/Michaela: quiz #2; Anthony/Antonio/Adam Y.: 7-sentence assignment; Michaela: talk to Ms. Chang after class, please).  3) Return 7-sentence assignment.  Fix mistake and resubmit.  You earn full credit until all mistakes are fixed.  4) Round robin reading instead of audacity next week.  Count for your participation grade. 5) Lesson Five Chapter test: Monday, 3/21/11.
  2. Read text passages on pages 55-61.
  3. Go over text page 65 / WB page 45 / any Chinese assignments.

Procedure for MS 3P (3/15/11)

Objectives: 1) Students will be able to gain geographical knowledge about the Great of China.  2) Students will be able to apply gain cultural knowledge about China.  3) Students will be able to expose Chinese folk art: cutting paper.

Homework: 1) Review learned greeting terms.  2) Complete 1 paper cutting paper pattern.

Procedure:

  1. Take attendance (seating chart and class roster are attached to clip board).
  2. 1) Collect China reading packet.  2) Return skit and Chinese characters writing assignment.  Remind them not to lose their skit.  They will practice on Thursday and Friday and perform in class next Monday.
  3. Allow students to quiz each other on the greeting terms they learned this past week (about 5 minutes).
  4. Culture reading: pass out Ancient China reading packet.  Please read page 17 as a class.  Collect reading packet after reading.
  5. DVD: Great Wall.  Please play the DVD with VLC media player for about 10 minutes (select VLC as media player as icon comes up or click My Computer, click DVD drive, and click VLC as selected media player).  It is 20 minutes long.  Please choose English as language setting, then click Play All.  We will finish up tomorrow.
  6. Cutting paper pattern:  Please pass out paper pattern and scissors.  Show the sample finished product.  Mark down on class roster (on clip board; it is behind seating chart) the name of the students who finish cutting before the end of the class period.  If not completed, it becomes their homework tonight.  Collect scissors at the end of class period, please.

Procedure:

  1. 1) Captains check completeness of worksheet “Get Set to Read”.  2) Round robin reading: text passages on pages 66-69 + reading comprehension on page 74.

Procedure:

Objectives: 1) Students will be able to review frequently used counting words.  2) Students will be able to gain oral fluency (sophomore can turn it in on Wednesday).

  1. 1) Turn in your 7-sentence assignment.  2) Return papers.  3) Feedback from grading your work:  Pay attention to counting words, ways to express money, i.e., 一塊兩毛ó 一塊二; 百 ó 白).  4) Makeup work (Michaela, Anthony, Antonio).  Anthony / Melissa talks to Ms. Chang after class, please. 
  2. Teach new characters (份, 斤, 磅, 袋, 本) with various counting words (份, 本, 串, 個, 斤, 磅, 袋, 枝, 頂).  2) Review terms (還要什麼 ó 不要了).  3) Review adverbs (很, 非常, 太).

Homework: 1) Complete China reading packet.  Due tomorrow.  2) Review all learned greeting terms.

Procedure:

  1. Take attendance (seating chart and class roster are attached to clip board).
  2. Collect Chinese characters writing assignment.
  3. Allow students to quiz each other on the greeting terms they learned this past week (5 minutes).
  4. Pair activity: create a skit with a minimum of 7 different greeting terms.  For the students who wish to work in 3, they have to use at least 10 different terms.  6 different terms for individual work.  Give them about 20 minutes to finish this task.  Collect.  I will grade the papers and return to them tomorrow.
  5. Pass out China reading packet.  Remind them to write their name on the top of page 4.  Allow them to work in pairs or independently to complete all 17 questions (or you can have them read the entire packet as a class).  They are allowed to use the map on the blackboard or search for the answers on the Internet.  (hint/tip: China has a population of 6.3 billion people and worldwide population is 6.6 billion).  Due tomorrow.
