Procedures for 3/7/11

Homeroom (3/7/11)

To recognize our gymnasts winning the 8th straight state championship, we will have a revised schedule with an assembly at 2PM this afternoon.

Procedure for HS 1P (3/7/11)

Objectives: Students will be able to talk about their nationality and language proficiency.  Homework: 1) Write new characters.  Know them before Wednesday class time.  2) PPT printout due tomorrow (9 slides per page). 

Procedure:

  1. 1) Ms. Chang checks your Lesson Eight characters definition.  2) Return your characters worksheet and chapter test papers.  3) Makeup work (Joe: audacity, 3 sentences about pets and WB page 47; Claire: characters worksheet; Paul: chapter test / characters worksheet; Darian: chapter test / WB page 47 / characters worksheet / 3 sentences about pets; Josh: WB page 47 / 3 sentences about pets).  4) Ms. Chang is not available tomorrow afternoon due to a staff meeting.  5) Conversation quiz: Friday, 3/11/11.
  2. 1) Browse through Lesson Eight content.  2) Teach new characters (中, 英, 美, 國, 文) with terms (中國, 中文, 中國人, 美國, 美國人, 英國, 英國人, 英文, 美人, 國家).
  3. Skit presentation (Abdussamad, Paul).

Procedure for HS 2P (3/7/11)

目標: 1) Students will be able to gain oral fluency.  2) Students will be able to compose/make terms.   

功課: Complete WB page 25. 

程序:

1.   1) Return quiz #2 papers.  2) Ms. Chang is not available tomorrow afternoon due to a staff meeting.  3) Round robin reading starts from tomorrow.  4) Chapter test: Friday, 3/11.  5) Makeup work (Celilia: audacity).

2.   1) Quick review (打坐, 早上, 上午, 中午, 下午, 晚上, 點菜, 吃飯, 參加, 附近, 逛街, 參觀).  2) Teach new characters (寺, 廟, 務, 高, 興) with terms (一座山, 一座寺廟, 流利, 高興, 服務生, 門口).

3.   Read first half of the text passage on page 24.

4.   Class work: WB page 25.

Objectives: 1) Students will be able to practice their speaking and listening skills.  2) Students will be able to name various items.   

功課: 1) Write new characters.  2) Prepare for quiz #2 from today.  

Procedure:

  1. 1) DePaul U. Summer Chinese program / U. of Indiana Chinese program: HS students with limited or no Chinese background.  2) Quick review (便宜, 地圖, 草莓, 貴, 字典, 漢英字典, 英漢字典).  3) Quiz #2: Friday, 3/11/11.  Vocabulary list: 22 terms (帽子, 香蕉, 橘子, 鳳梨, 蘋果, 水果, 百貨公司, 便宜, 地圖, 草莓, 貴, 荔枝, 市場, 可是, 不錯, 書店, 字典, 一共, 雜誌, 報紙, 葡萄, 非常).  4) Makeup work (Cait/Melissa: WB page 42; Brad: Skit with checklist).  5) Ms. Chang is not available tomorrow afternoon due to a staff meeting.

Procedure for MS 3P (3/7/11)

Objectives: 1) Teacher and students will be able to know one another.  2) Students will be able to know basics of Hanyu pinyin.

Homework: Student Inventory.  Due tomorrow.

Procedure:

  1. 1) Sit on your assigned seat, please.  2) Get team assignment information.  3) Pass out/go over Students Inventory worksheet.  Collect if you are done.  Due tomorrow.
  2. Pass out/go over Introduction to Hanyu Pinyin handout / Basic Greeting Terms and Classroom Expressions.
  3. Teach new terms (Ni Hao, Ni Shi, Wo Shi).

Procedure for MS 5P (3/7/11)

Objectives: 1) Students will be able to talk about their nationality and language proficiency.  2) Students will be able to gain cultural/historical knowledge about Terra Cotta Warriors.

Homework: 1) Write new characters.  Know them before Wednesday class time.  2) PPT printout due tomorrow (9 slides per page). 

Procedure:

  1. 1) Captains checks Lesson Eight characters definition.  2) Return your characters worksheet and chapter test papers.  3) Makeup work (Rachel: audacity, 3 sentences about pets, chapter test and WB page 47; Cole: characters worksheet/skit/chapter test/WB page 47; Alex: chapter test; Brandon Smith: 3 sentences about pet; Logan, Kerem, Megan G., Brandon H., Kate, Alex, Jordan & Jubilee: WB page 47).  4) Show Ms. Chang your WB page 47 while you watch DVD.  5) Conversation quiz: Friday, 3/11/11.

Procedure for HS 1P (3/3/11)

Objectives: 1) Students will be able to showcase their mastery of Lesson Seven material.  Homework: 1) Lesson Eight characters definition.  Due next Monday.  2) PPT + pet sentences.  Due next Tuesday (9 slides per page).    

Procedure:

  1. 1) Take one copy of Lesson Eight characters worksheet.  2) Turn in your Lesson Seven characters worksheet.  3) Makeup work (Joe: audacity + 3 sentences; Josh: WB pages + 3 sentences; Darian: 3 sentences + etc.).  4) Return papers (audacity + 3 sentences).
  2. 1) Be sure to turn in your text passages slip after audacity recording.  2) Always name your file as < last name > Lesson#.WAV.  3) Always turn in your characters worksheet when you take chapter test.  4) Common audacity mistakes (小, 凶, 那, 你, 條, 狗, 貓, 真).  5) Common sentence mistakes (use “是”before age, 名字 not 名子)

Procedure for HS 2P (3/3/11)

目標: 1) Students will be able to name places around town.  2) Students will be able to giver directions orally. 

功課: 1) Study sentence patterns in text pages 28-31.  2) Practice text passages in page 24. 

程序:

  1. Lesson Two chapter test: Friday, 3/11/11.
  2. 1) Quick review.  2) Quiz #2.
  3. Conversation questions: getting around town. 

Procedure for HS 9P (3/3/11)

Objectives: 1) Students will be able to review various counting words for items.  2) Students will be able to gain oral fluency. 

功課: 1) Memorize your script for performance on next Monday.  2) Fix your script mistakes.   

Procedure:

  1. 1) Turn in your skip script with checklist.  2) E-mail Ms. Chang your script document.  3) Quick review (帽子, 香蕉, 橘子, 鳳梨, 蘋果, 水果, 百貨公司).
  2. Teach new characters (圖/图, 草, 苺, 便, 宜, 漢/汉, 典, 貴/贵) with terms (地圖, 圖畫/画, 畫圖, 草苺, 便宜, 字典, 漢英字典)

**  State Send Off right after the beginning of 9P. 

Procedure for MS 3P (3/3/11)

Objectives: 1) Students will be able to showcase their oral proficiency in presenting information about themselves.  2) Students will be able to review body parts.

Homework: N/A

Procedure:

  1. 1) Return quiz #4 papers.  2) Quick review of all 10 sentences.  Go over confusing/difficult sounds.  3) Practice reading your draft.
  2. Oral presentation.

** Thank you and have fun in German class.  (2/3 3Q grade from Ms. Chang, and 1/3 grade and comments from Mr. Moore).
