Procedures for 3/15/12

Procedure for HS Chinese IV (3/15/12)

目标 (MùBiāo): 1) I can sight read text passages fluently. 2) I can verbally describe images with complete sentences.

功课: 1) Orally share your 30 sentences tomorrow.  2) Turn in final version of 30 sentences by Monday, 3/19/12.

程序 (ChéngXù):

1.   1) Read 1st/2nd paragraphs on text page 2.  2) Finish up 3rd paragraph.  3) Go over individual work.

Procedure for HS Chinese III (3/15/12)

目标 (MùBiāo): 1) I can ask / answer questions.  2) I can use website tools to review learned materials.

功课: 1) All work (translation of the conversation questions) due at the end of tomorrow.  2) Finalize scripts by the end of tomorrow.

程序 (ChéngXù):

  1. 1) Return papers (Jay, Aashna, Claire, John).  2) Get a copy of conversation questions from Ms. Szell.  Work independently or in pairs, type your work (translate not answer those questions) to each question in pinyin.  Turn in your work by the end of tomorrow to Ms. Szell.  We will share next week.
  2. Go to P driver, click Ni Hao 2 or Ni Hao 3 and click any lesson to play interactive game.
  3. Go back to either Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday blog and click links to watch video clips and/or reading comprehension exercises.




Procedure for MS Chinese I 2P/7P (3/15/12)

Objectives: 1) I can construct a PPT to introduce my family and myself.  2) I can sight read text passages fluently.  3) I can utilize website tools to type Chinese characters and make audacity recording.

Homework: Study for chapter test tomorrow.


  1. 1) Makeup work (2P: Dan, James, Jonah—WB page 53).  2) Take one copy of highlighted text passages slip for audacity recording.  Write down your name and turn in your slip to Ms. Chang when you are done with recording.  Name your MP3 or WAV file as < last name > and submit to Ms. Chang’s folder in O drive.
  2. Create new slides and type your 5 sentences to expand your PPT file.  Print out a handout format of your PPT and turn it in.  You can either use either one of the editors: 1) Go to and click Type Chinese from the middle of left-hand menu.  When a window pops up, you click either Mandarin Pinyin – Simplified or Mandarin Pinyin – Traditional.  You then enter pinyin and select appropriate character.  2) Go to and scroll down your screen.  Type pinyin and select appropriate character.  Cut and paste into your PPT slide.  Only simplified characters are available in this website, though.
  3. Go to P drive and click Ni Hao1 and play Lesson Eight interactive game for review.

Procedure for MS Exploratory Chinese 3P/5P (3/15/12)

Objectives: 1) I can say simple Chinese greeting terms.  2) I can acquire cultural knowledge about Chinese folk art of paper cut and publications.

Homework: Review learned terms for quiz #1 tomorrow.


  1. 1) Collect 8 Chinese characters writing assignment (3P: Allison/Erin; 7P: James, Steelley, Erin, Michael, Seth, Chris, Sean, Brenden, Jose, Noah).  2) Return papers.  3) Quick review.  4) Teach new terms (Dui Bu Qi, Mei Guan Xi).
  2. 1) (3P) Culture reading: Chinese calligraphy.  2) Culture reading: Introduction to China (pages 3-4).  Showcase Chinese publications & seals.
  3. DVD: (5P) Chongqing + Paper cut.
