Procedure for MS Chinese I 1P / 2P / 8P (1/31/14)

 

Objectives: 1) I can talk about my pets.  2) I can gain cultural knowledge about how Chinese people celebrate Chinese New Year through viewing a video clip.

Homework: 1) Chinese character writing assignment.  2) Practice singing Chinese songs.  3) (2P/8P) Claim your custom to your captain (2P: James / Shann; 8P: Sara / Troy), please.

Procedure:

1.      1) Opening routine.  Pep rally assembly bell schedule today.  1st P students read your text passage during E/I next Monday.  2P students circle your name and read text passages during 6A/6B today.  Return Chapter test papers / PPT printout / exit slip.  Ask for retake application form, please.  Makeup work (1P: Victor, Emma*, Naomi; 2P: Jake, Marco, Bryce, James, Shaan; 8P: Emily*, Bryan, Maddy, Grant).  (2P / 8P) need technical help, please.

2.      1) Go over common PPT mistakes.  2) Teach new characters (, , , , , 金子金鱼, ).  3) Video clip: Chinese New Year.

Objectives: 1) I can say simple greeting terms.  2) I can write simple Chinese characters.  3) I can gain cultural and historical knowledge about how Chinese people celebrate Chinese New Year and China.

Homework: Review 17 learned greeting terms.  2) Chinese character writing assignment.  Due next Monday.

Procedure:

1.      1) Quick review (12 terms + 6 characters).  3) Teach new terms (Wu An, Wan An, Dong Le Ma, Dong le, Bu dong).

2.      1) Teach new characters (water, fire).  Collect if done.  2) Video clip: Chinese New Year.  3) (5P) Culture reading: pages 1-2.

Objectives: 1) I can showcase my mastery of Lesson Six materials.  2) I can gain cultural knowledge about how Chinese people celebrate Chinese New Year.

Homework: 1) Lesson Seven character worksheet definitions.  2) Exit slip due in class tomorrow.

Procedure:

1.      1) Opening routine.  Makeup work (1P: Giovanna).  Collect Lesson Six character worksheet + PPT printout + checklist.  Pass out Lesson Seven text passages slip + Chinese song lyrics.

2.      1) Lesson Six chapter test.  2) Pass out culture reading article and exit slip.  Turn in if you are done with exit slip.  3) Show Ms. Chang your Lesson Seven character definitions if you are done with it.

Homework: 1) Review learned 12 terms.  2) Chinese character writing assignment.

Procedure:

1.      1) Makeup work (3P: Jack O.; 5P: Ian, Diante, Matt).  Return papers.  Quick review (9 terms + 3 Chinese characters).  2) Teach new terms + Class activity: practice (xie xie, bu xie or bu ke qi).

2.   1) Teach Chinese characters (mouth, mountain, tree).  2) Video clips: moon, person/people, (3P) + tree + mountain.

Objectives: 1) I can talk about my family and myself.  2) I can gain knowledge about Chinese cultural customs through viewing a Chinese movie.

Homework: Movie unit worksheet.

Procedure:

1.      1) Open routine.  Makeup work (1P: Giovanna; 2P: Yui).  Spirit week schedule: Monday- Hat Day; Tuesday – Inside Out Day; Wednesday – Pajama Day (no shorts); Thursday – throwback Day; Friday – Red and Gold Day; If school is cancelled, that theme will just be cancelled.  3) Pass out Lesson Seven character worksheet.  4) (1P/2P) Go over 3rd quarter learning objectives.

2.      1) (8P) Go over common pronunciation mistakes.  2) (1P/2P) Sight reading: text passages pages 43-46.

3.      1) Go over Movie unit worksheet.  2) Movie time.

Objectives: 1) I can write simple Chinese picture characters.  2) I can say simple Chinese greeting terms.  3) I can understand the development of Chinese characters through viewing video clip.

Homework: 1) Review learned greeting terms.  2) Chinese character writing assignment.

Procedure:

1.     1) Return China reading packet.  Makeup work (3P: Jack O.; 5P: Bryan*, Diante, Ian, Matt—China reading packet).  2) Quick review (Ni Hao, Ni Shi, Wo Shi, Lao Shi).  3) Teach new terms (Zai Jian, Zao, Zao An, Ni Zao, Zao Shang Hao).

2.     1) Pass out / go over square paper & table of 8 picture characters.  2) Teach simple Chinese picture characters (sun, moon, person/people).  3) (3P) Video clip: caveman (moon).

Objectives: 1) I can sing Chinese song and chanting.  2) I can gain knowledge about Chinese family structure through culture reading.  3) I can review for my chapter test.

Homework: 1) Study for your chapter test.  2) Make sure you have all your family members’ picture for Tuesday.  3) PPT printout due on Tuesday if working in computer lab; it is due on Wednesday if schools get cancelled due to weather.

Procedure:

1.      1) Opening routine.  HR students get your report card and invitation letter.  (1P: Giovanna; 2P: Marco; 8P: Samantha, Sean) talk to Ms. Chang, please.  2) Go over Lesson Six chapter test study guide.  3) (2P/8P) Go over family handout.  4) Song time (Happy Chinese New Year / chanting time.

Procedure:

1.     1) Any signature slip?  Collect China reading packet.  2) Go over Introduction to Hanyu Pinyin handout.  3) Teach greeting terms (Ni Hao, Ni Shi, Wo Shi, Zai Jian).
