Procedure for MS Chinese I 1P / 4P / 8P (9/30/14)

Objectives: 1) (1P/8P) I can blend / discriminate consonants / vowels. 2) (1P/8P) I can express math equations in Chinese. 3) (4P) I can improve my performance through peer-coaching session.
Homework: 1) Review consonants / vowels & learned Chinese operator characters. 2) Quiz #4 moves to Thursday (listening, writing blending, sounding out / reading blending). Lesson Three chapter test: Wednesday, 10/8/14. 3) Field trip survey: due Friday, 10/3/14. Type in the electronic version and e-mail back. 4) Self-correction work due in class on Thursday, 10/9/14. 5) Unit 1 Chapter test retake: 6P, Monday, 10/6/14.
Procedure:

Procedure:
1. 1) Quick review (8 colors). 2) Teach colors (cheng se, hui se, fen hong se). 3) (3P) Finalize draft #1. 4) Teach new terms (dian hua hao ma). Write sentence #6. Practice reading sentences #1-#6. Collect.

Objectives: 1) I can blend / discriminate consonants / vowels. 2) I can express and solve math equations in Chinese. 3) I can review my chapter test to self-correct my mistakes for retake.
Homework: 1) Review consonants / vowels & learned Chinese number / operator characters. 2) Retake work due: Thursday, 10/2/14. Retake: 6P, Monday, 10/6/14. 3) Quiz #4: Wednesday, 10/1/14.
Procedure:
1. 1) Daily greeting routine. (HR) Any panoramic picture order form? Pass out school fee invoice. “If a student has already paid their fee (i.e. online or by check) they will NOT have a fee slip. Please do not send them down to the office to check, sometimes this communal office space in Los Angeles not have all the resources. Trust me….if they owe money they will have a fee slip.” 2) (1P) Mealtime rules.
2. 1) (1P / 8P) Pass out chapter test paper / retake application form. Go over retake procedure. 2) Makeup work: (4P) Jessy + (8P) Matt + Andrew Flis + Maddie P. 3) Daily dictation (blending + math equations). 4) (8P) Writing Thank you card.

Procedure for MS Exploratory Chinese 3P/5P (9/29/14)

Objectives: 1) I can gain cultural knowledge about Chinese zodiac story, giant panda, and ancient Chinese civilization. 2) I can explore tangram piece game.
Homework: 1) Quiz #3: Wednesday, 10/1/14. 2) Ancient China worksheet.
Procedure:
1. 1) Take attendance. 2) Return (5P) oral presentation draft. (5P) Collect makeup work (Liam / Tiffany—turn in your oral presentation draft 1, please).
2. 1) Independent reading: pass out Ancient China pamphlet and worksheet. Have students write down their response before reading, and then read the designated page to find out answers. Collect Ancient China pamphlet and completed worksheet. Let them know it is a 10-point formative assessment.
2) Video clip: Chinese Zodiac Animals story. Play video and select English in language selection.
3) Culture reading: The Twelve Animals of the Chinese Zodiac (pages 63-64) and The Giant Panda (page 65).
3. Tangram piece game (day 1)—your time to rest and it is for fun only. Please give each student a bag with 7 tangram pieces (2 smallest triangles, 1 medium triangle, 2 large triangles, 1 square, & 1 parallelogram). They only need to take out 3 pieces (2 smallest triangles + 1 medium triangle) to assemble 8 different diagrams shown on the slip. Have students draw on a piece of paper to show how they assemble their 3 pieces to come up with the answers. Ask them to keep their record. We will do more challenging tasks this week.

Objective: I can demonstrate my mastery of greeting terms / geography about China / Mid-Autumn Festival.

Procedure:

2. 1) Unit #1Chapter test (highlight section II: multiple choice + write down your Chinese name + section II #9/#10 may have two answers.  Ms. Chang checks your meal selection. 2) If you are done with test, work on Hanyu Pinyin Phonetic System worksheet.
