Procedure for MS Chinese I 3P / 8P (9/30/15)

Objectives: 1) I can blend and discriminate consonants, vowels and tones. 2) (8P) I can read text passages and sight read Chinese characters fluently and accurately. 3) (8P) I can gain cultural knowledge about Chinese Yellow River. 4) I can gain cultural knowledge and generate reading comprehension questions.
Homework: 1) Know all learned characters by class time tomorrow. 2) Review (ang, eng) sections. 3) Quiz #5 (Front + Back Nasal Sounds—MC, dictation, sounding out loud, mini-dialogue): Tuesday, 10/6/15. Lesson Two chapter test: Friday, 10/9/15.
Procedure:
1. 1) Opening routine. Take one copy of Character Recognition handout. Return Lesson Three chapter test and character writing assignment. An audio file for Back Nasal Sounds handout was sent out to your e-mail account this morning. 2) Dictation (ian, uan). 3) (8P) Go over common writing mistakes (加, 减, 乘, 除, 等). 4) Dictation (ian, uan).

Homework: 1) Chinese character writing assignment. Know these five characters by Thursday, 10/1/15. 2) Review (ian, uan) sections.

Procedure:

  1. 1) Opening routine. Take one copy of Back Nasal Sounds handout. Please write Chinese name on your character writing worksheet. (3P: Zachary; 8P: Devin, Hailey) turn in your Lesson Three character worksheet, please.   1. 1) (7P: Christian) completes your makeup quiz, please. Get your netbook, if needed. 2) While Ms. Chang listens to individual student’s oral presentation, please use time effectively and wisely to complete your art project. If interested, you can try Chinese tangram game.

Homework: 1) Know all 7 math operators by tomorrow. 2) Complete Virtual Classroom activity by the end of today.

Procedure:

  1. 1) Opening routine. Take one copy of Front Nasal Sounds handout. Take one netbook, and turn it on. (3P: Jacob, Luke, Liam) talk to Ms. Chang, please. 2) Quiz #4.
  2. While Ms. Chang conducts the oral speaking part, students can 1) log onto ProgressBook and work on virtual classroom activity (Rearranging Jumbled Numbers), and 2) work with a partner on flash cards speaking part.

Homework: 1) Study for your quiz #4 (Compound Vowels (2)—MC, dictation, Sounding out loud syllables)–Tuesday, 9/22/15. 2) Lesson Three chapter test: Monday, 9/28/15. 3) Familiarize yourself with 2-digit numbers, addition / subtraction and equal operator characters. 4) Google Docs share with Ms. Chang your typing assignment by the end of class period. Typing assignment is due in class. Accuracy counts (1 point for each mistake, 20 points assessment, 5 points deduction for turning in late).

Procedure:

  1. 1) Opening routine. Take one netbook, turn it on, activate a browser and log into mdbg.net. 2) (3P) Dictation (y, w). 3) (8P) Introduce www.mdbg.net utility to type Chinese pinyin and Chinese characters. 4) Quiz #3.
