Procedure for MS Chinese I 3P / 8P (9/10/15)

Objectives: 1) I can write / comprehend Chinese number characters. 2) I can blend and discriminate consonants, vowels and tones. 3) I can say my peer’s Chinese names accurately. 4) I can use culturally appropriate and accurate hand gestures to show numbers. 5) (8P) I can gain cultural knowledge about 2 special administrative regions (Hong Kong, Macao).
Homework: 1) Quiz #2 postpones to Monday, 9/14/15. 2) Review 4 new number characters + (3P) üe section. 3) Complete character writing assignment.
Procedure:
1. 1) Opening routine. Bring a pair of ear buds for tomorrow’s activities. Take a copy of Chinese Counting Principle handout. 2) Dictation (3P) ua / uo (8P) üe + 4 numbers / Read 4 numbers. 3) Go over Chinese character writing principle.
2. 1) Go over Chinese hand/finger gestures for numbers / Teach characters (五, 六, 七, 八). 2) Go over Chinese names. 3) Video time: (8P) Hong Kong + Macao.
3. Pair activity: Practice reading / listening to a string of single-digit numbers.

Procedure for MS Exploratory Chinese 6P / 7P (9/10/15)

Objectives: 1) I can explore Chinese folk art of folding paper. 2) I can count from zero to one hundred. 3) I can review for my test #2 (recognize 20 Chinese characters). 4) I can gain cultural knowledge about Chinese school systems and cram school.
Homework: 1) 12 number character writing assignment is due tomorrow. 2) Review for test #2 (tomorrow).
Procedure:
1. 1) Review numbers. 2) Simulation of test #2 with answer bank. 3) Counting from zero to one hundred. 4) Explain and pass around quiz #1 test paper.
2. 1) Culture reading: Chinese schools + Cram schools. 2) Video time: (7P) Families around the World: Students in the urban / rural areas.
3. Pass out two colored papers.
