There have been some concerns about placement in accelerated classes for sixth grade. If you go to my blog page for the class/es your child is in, I will try to clear up some of the confusion.

Central School is adopting a new weekly schedule for the second semester. Your child will be bringing home a copy of the new schedule in the next few days. It is an improvement because classes and lunch will be consistent from one day to the next. It will also eliminate “Wacky Wednesdays”, when content classes have had a different mix of students.
I hope all of you had a fun-filled and relaxing holiday. I look forward to seeing you all in the new year!

There have been some questions come up as to how students’ grades are figured on Progress Book. If you go to the link for each subject, I will explain the weighting.
Thanks to all the moms who helped create a really fun Halloween party for the students. A good time was had by all.
There is no school on Monday for students. Friday, October 30th is the end of the grading period, and Monday is an Inservice Day and Records Day for teachers.
Next Friday, October 30th, will be our class Halloween party. Students may bring costumes to school to change into, but time is limited, so don’t send complicated items. Face paint is not allowed. Students will be given about 10 minutes to get into their costumes before the party begins.
Tomorrow afternoon the students will be taking the Otis Lenon Test of School Ability. It will take about 50 minutes of class time and the tests are sent away for scoring. You will receive your child’s results when the scoring is complete. This usually takes at least a month.
Some problems with our grade program have turned up as I have been doing interims. They seem to be mainly in my two regular math classes. The total grade you see on Progress Book is not accurate. All my categories are weighted, but Progress Book seems to be figuring a straight average. As a result many of the overall grades are wrong, some by a lot. This problem is being looked into, but I want to give parents a heads-up in case they notice their child’s grade making a big change.
Student pictures will be taken on Tuesday, Sept. 15th, so remember to send money and choices.
