introduction
Language arts is a complex combination of skills mastered over a lifetime. The ability to understand these concepts takes patience, practice, and application in a and out of school. In other words, "Constant repetition of essential skills."
The Trophies anthology from Harcourt focuses on phonemic awareness, phonics, reading aloud, comprehension, vocabulary, fluency, writing, grammar, spelling, speaking and listening, assessment, and most important, reaching all learners. These skills are taught and reviewed consistently throughout the year.
There are six themes. Within each theme you will find additional reading, writing, and web resources to help your child succeed.

Ohio has new academic standards. Benchmarks are the concepts students should know by the time they leave a certain grade band. Indicators are specific grade level learning goals. You can read the benchmarks and indicators for fourth grade.

Each story within a theme has a link to AR to help you and your child choose AR best suited to his/her reading level. In the future you will also find AR project guidelines, due dates, and other paper-based resources students might need.
Each story also has associated reading projects that will be assigned based around each theme.

Otherwise known as Think-N-Write. Each theme has a series of T-N-W’s for extra writing practice. Each T-N-W will open as a Word document.
