LEGO WeDo Kits!

As an introduction to LEGO Robotics, the BBH Schools Foundation was able to provide our club with the grant money for these amazing LEGO WeDo Kits.  Each kit has four motors inside and enables the students the chance to make at least 8 different “robots.”  We were amazed at what the students could do with very little assistance.

Floating Boat Challenge

This week, we had to make a boat that used at least one piece of styrofoam and one straw, was at least 6 inches tall, included a flag, and could hold 5 quarters without sinking for at least 10 seconds. At some point in the challenge, we also learned that wet tissue paper bleeds dye into a container of water.

Squishy Circuits

This week, we made “Squishy Circuits” in Makers’ Club.  We mixed and prepared the insulating dough during our club time while Miss Kolis prepared the conductive dough at home.  We used battery packs and LED lights to form a circuit and light up the bulbs. You can find out more about Squishy Circuits here.

2015-2016 Makers’ Club

Our Makers’ Club continued throughout the 2015-2016 school year. We used the reading intervention room for the club meetings and used the hallway to store materials. This was our first project that year. Problem: Miss Kolis has no stand for her phone! Challenge: Build a phone stand for Miss Kolis out of marshmallows and toothpicks.  The phone stand must be at least 6 inches tall and hold up the phone for at least 10 seconds.
