Second-Grade Makers’ Club in the 19-20 School Year!

Welcome to Makers’ Club, 19-20 Second Graders!  We are so happy to have you in the makerspace this year on Thursdays during your lunch recess! During the first club meeting, the students were introduced to lots of different building materials and had a chance to explore at each station.  They explored LEGOs, base-ten blocks, K’NEX, Brackitz, and Lincoln Logs. LEGO WeDo Kits Were a HIT!

This week, we used our LEGO WeDo kits to introduce coding and robotics to our second and third-grade students.  It is always AWESOME to see these students follow visual directions and complete the coding to make their robots move!  Check it out! Thanks again to the BBH Schools Foundation for these awesome kits!

Break Out the LEGO WeDo Kits!

This week, students were introduced to robotics by engaging with a partner and the LEGO WeDo Kits that were provided to use through a grant from the BBH Schools Foundation.  Students used instruction booklets as well as online instructions to create alligators, planes, pulleys, and other robots.  Then, after plugging into the USB port on our three desktop computers, students were able to create a simple code to make their robot move. Wow! How amazing to see 7 and 8 year olds learn these skills!
