Mrs. Paskert gave the students 5 different strategies they could use to create concrete study tools to prepare for their test on Wednesday.  Some of the strategies were drawing a diagram, creating a chart, making vocabulary cards, etc.  Students were able to work in partners or individually and spent the time productively!

SICA - Handy Homework Helper Strategy Two

Today in SICA we practiced strategy two in the Handy Homework Helper.  Students had to write questions with answers.  They applied this strategy by creating a multiple choice, matching, or fill in the blanks quiz using the science notes they have been studying for their quiz on Monday.  It was a challenging activity, but the kids created interesting quizzes that they then exchanged with one another.  We encourage them to use this strategy this weekend as they prepare for the quiz.

On Friday, we focused on creating and using note cards as a study strategy.   We discussed two different methods for creating note cards and brainstormed ways these cards could then be used to study.  The students came up with very creative suggestions!  The students were then given time to begin creating note cards for math since all math classes will have a test this week.

Progress Book & SICA

In case you didn’t see the note at the bottom of last week’s Weekly Update, I wanted to share information parents had requested at Curriculum Night.

Progress Book

The office has student names and classes loaded into Progress Book.  You will receive your child’s login name and password in the mail in the next two weeks.  If you used Progress Book last year, these pieces of information remain the same.  Now that classes are loaded, it will take us a little time to input grades.

SICA (Studying in the Content Areas)

Last week for SICA we reviewed with the students homework strategies:  how long homework should take, where it should be done, creating a homework schedule, using the assignment book, and what to do when absent.
