Not only would an "un-conference" save time, but also significant money. Now that I have been a Creative Memories consultant for 8 years, I rarely learn anything new from the home office staff at the large events I attend, but I learn TONS from the other consultants. With airfare and gas pricing increasing almost exponentially, I see significant financial incentive for all types of corporations to move more consistently to online conferencing.

Of course, this type of video-conferencing technology has been around for years (we were using it at FexEd when I left there in 2001), but it was expensive to install and if the other company didn't have it, it wasn't much use. These online tools make it more user friendly and feasible for even small companies.

The only aspect this type of interaction cannot reproduce is the excitement and momentum that traveling to a new place for a special event and meeting face-to-face with other can generate. That is a significant piece and purpose of the Creative Memories conferences I usually attend.

I have been wanting to do this for years. If I attended every meeting I was invited to in a month, I would miss 4 days of work a month. While meeting in person has advantages, the biggest disadvantage I see is wasted time commuting. While I use that time by listening to podcasts, making phone calls (hands-free cell) and creating Jotts (again, hands-free cell), I would much rather spend my time getting something done in my district. I believe meetings are valuable, but there are times when I feel like I am just wasting time. If there were meetings online for me to attend, I would attend them more regularly than face-to-face meetings.
