Curriculum For February 25th-29th

In Reading Language Arts We will be reading a story called Papa Tells Chita a Story on pages 16-31. The skills we will be concentrating on are reading guided comprehension, vocabulary, spelling words with /ôr/, summarization, figurative language, prefixes and suffixes, adjectives and writing a paragraph that compares.  On Thursday we will be taking our End of Selection Test. This is a vocabulary test along with reading comprehension from the story. The vocabulary words are listed on the spelling sheet and the students should study those throughout the week. Our spelling test will be on Friday.

 In Math We will concentrate on reviewing for our math procedures standardized test. We will also continue our geometry unit for next week’s test. We we work on the factor of 11 all week and reviewing the factors of 0-10.  On Friday, we will take our timed test over the factor of 11. The students have 5 to 6 minutes to complete this test with 100% accuracy. If they miss one or more, they will take it again on Monday.  

In Science we will continue our unit on Motion and Force. We will be doing experiments with the K-NEX cars we built. The students will be measuring how far their cars go using different weights and loads. Miscellaneous- OPEN HOUSE FOR 2nd and 3Rd grades is Thursday, February 28th, from 7:00-8:00. Please plan on attending. Your child has worked really hard and will have a lot of projects on display. Store is Friday the 29th from 2:45-3:30. Set up for the volunteers begins at 2:15. Standardized testing schedule is as follows: Monday- reading comprehension, Tuesday-math procedures, Thursday is the Otis Lenon Ability test and Friday is the Science portion. I will be out for a conference on Wednesday, so no testing will take place.

Monday, February 25th   - Spelling-page 62 and Math- study 11′s 

Tuesday, February 26th Reading- (you have two days for this) take home reading books and read pages 16-31 Papa Tells Chita a Story for Thursday’s comprehension test. 

Wednesday, February 27th Reading- study vocabulary words for tomorrow’s vocabulary test and make sure reading book comes back by tomorrow for end of selection test. Library books due tomorrow. 

Thursday, February 28th Spelling- study for tomorrow’s test.  Math- study 11’s for tomorrow’s test. OPEN HOUSE TONIGHT- 7:00-8:00 PM.

Curriculum For February 18th-22nd

In Reading Language Arts  there are NO SPELLING WORDS or Story  this week due to standardized Testing.  

Testing Schedule This Week: Monday-President’s Day No School.Tuesday is the 30 minute Vocabulary test.Wednesday is the 30 minute Social Studies Test. Thursday is the field trip to Severance Hall. Friday is the Math problem solving 50 minute test.  We will also be finishing the Ramona Quimby chapter book we have been reading in class and watch a video or two that resembles the chapters in the book.

In Math We will review for the Math Standardized testing. This review will consist of math that the 3rd graders have learned over the last 2 years. We will also work on cross multiplication and division facts.  On Friday, we will take our timed test over the factor of 10. The students have 5 to 6 minutes to complete this test with 100% accuracy. If they miss one or more, they will take it again on Monday.  

In Science we will continue our unit on Motion and Force. We will be reviewing force, motion, speed and the laws of motion. Miscellaneous- NO SCHOOL Monday the 18th- PRESIDENT’S DAY.  Thursday 11:00-2:00 Field Trip to Severance Hall for Music class. FYI- Reminder that Open House is Thursday, February 28th, from 7:00-8:00 for 2nd and 3rd grades.

Monday, February 11th   - NO SCHOOL- Presidents Day 

Tuesday, February 12th   Reading- work on book reports. Math- study 10′s for Friday’s test.

Wednesday, February 13th -    Pack a lunch for tomorrow’s trip- we will eat half of it before the trip and the other half after we return. Dress nicely for tomorrow’s field trip to Severance Hall. Library books due tomorrow. 

Thursday, February 14th Math- study 10’s for tomorrow’s test.

Curriculum For February 11th-15th

In Reading Language Arts  there are NO SPELLING WORDS Or Story  this week due to theme testing. We will be theme testing over the past 6 weeks of skills. These skills are prefixes and suffixes, drawing conclusions, following directions, sequencing, plural possessive nouns, abbreviations, singular and plural nouns, subject pronouns, object pronouns and writing a persuasive letter. We will also be finishing the Ramona Quimby chapter book we have been reading in class and watch a video or two that resembles the chapters in the book.

In Math We will concentrate on sections 6.5- quadrangles, 6.6- polygons, 6.7- drawing angles, and 6.9- symmetry,  We will also work on the factor of 9 all week and review the factors of 0-8.  On Friday, we will take our timed test over the factor of 9. The students have 5 to 6 minutes to complete this test with 100% accuracy. If they miss one or more, they will take it again on Monday.

Miscellaneous- Valentine’s Day Party on Thursday, February 14th from 2:00-3:15. All parents working the party must be out of the parking lot by 3:20 for buses and dismissal. 10:00 Assembly on Valentine’s Day. A cardiologist is coming to speak to the whole school about the heart and the importance of eating good food and exercising. Monday, February 11th   - No School Today due to Weather

Tuesday, February 12th   Reading-pages 56-57 and look over 22 question practice test for tomorrow’s theme test.  Math- page 283. Scholastic due if ordering.

Wednesday, February 13th -   Math- 6.6 math boxes, Science- RS 51-52 due in 2 days. Valentine boxes – bring in tomorrow for the party if you made one. Library books due tomorrow. 

Thursday, February 14th Math- study 9’s for tomorrow’s test.

Curriculum For February 4th-8th

In Reading Language Arts We will be reading a story called Sayings We Share: Proverbs and Fables on pages 390-403.  The skills we will be concentrating on are reading guided comprehension, vocabulary, spelling words with /ar/, narrative elements of a story, word relationships, object pronouns and writing a persuasive letter. On Thursday we will be taking our End of Selection Test. This is a vocabulary test along with reading comprehension from the story. The vocabulary words are listed on the spelling sheet and the students should study those throughout the week. Our spelling test will be on Friday.  

In Math We will concentrate on sections 6.1- investigating line segments, rays, and lines, 6.2- parallel and intersecting line segments, rays, and lines, 6.3- angles and turns, 6.4- triangles. We will also work on the factor of 8 all week and reviewing the factors of 0-7.  On Friday, we will take our timed test over the factor of 8. The students have 5 to 6 minutes to complete this test with 100% accuracy. If they miss one or more, they will take it again on Monday.  

In Science we will start a new unit on Motion and Force. We will be defining force, motion, speed and the laws of motion. We will be doing fun experiments in this unit and also view interactive website that demonstrate motion and force. If you plan on coming, please send that letter in ASAP so the cafeteria can plan accordingly.  Wednesday, February 6th   Reading- study vocabulary words for tomorrow’s vocabulary test and make sure reading book comes back by tomorrow for end of selection test. Library books due tomorrow. Math- page 281 and Science pages RS 49-50.

Thursday, February 7th Spelling- study for tomorrow’s test.  Math- study 8’s for tomorrow’s test. 

Friday, February 8th-    Work on Valentine’s box, if you are making one, for the party next Thursday the 14th.
