Mr. Wasil’s 3rd Grade Class

In Reading Language Arts There will be no story or spelling test this week due to the Monday and Wednesday Ohio Achievement testing. We will be doing other fun projects in language arts all week while reviewing concepts from all year.

 In Math we will continue our unit on probability and concentrate on sections 11.5- designing spinners and  11.6- blocks-in-a-bag experiment.Also, on Friday we will take the 100 facts multiplication tests.  The students have 10 to 15 minutes to complete this test with 90% – 100 % accuracy. Please use the sheets I sent home prior to Spring Break for practice.   

In Science we will continue our short unit on fossils and have a quiz over this unit next week sometime.  

Miscellaneous- Reading Achievement test is Monday the 28^th from 9:30-12:00 and the Math Achievement test is Wednesday the 30^th from 9:30-12:00. Please make sure your child gets plenty of rest on these days. Art Appreciation Day- Friday, May 2^nd and it is all day long. Kids will be learning about different careers that apply to art. Monday, April 28^th      - No Homework due to testing all day. Kids should rest their minds tonight and get plenty of rest for Wednesday’s Math Test. 

Tuesday, April 29^th    – Math- page 358. Get a good night’s sleep and eat a great breakfast tomorrow morning for the Math Achievement test.  

Wednesday, April 30^{th    –} Library books due tomorrow. 

Thursday, May 1^st       -  Book reports due tomorrow. Study math multiplication facts for tomorrow’s timed test. 

Friday, May 2^nd       – Work on Book reports due by June

In Reading Language Arts we will be theme testing over the past 6 weeks of skills. These skills are figurative language, summarize, comparing and contrasting, adjectives, adjectives of how many and what kind, articles (a, the, and an), adjectives that compare and writing a comparing/contrasting paragraph. BOOK REPORTS FOR APRIL ARE DUE BY FRIDAY, May 2^nd !!! 

In Math we will be starting a new unit on probability. We will be concentrating on sections 11.1 the language of chance events, 11.2- a pattern-block toss experiment, 11.3- a coin toss experiment and 11.4- spinner experiments.Also, on Friday we will take the 100 facts multiplication tests.  The students have 10 to 15 minutes to complete this test with 90% – 100 % accuracy. Please use the sheets I sent home prior to Spring Break for practice.  Last, we will continue to practice for the Math Ach. Test in 1 week.  

In Science we will be testing over Animals on Tuesday and start a new unit on fossils and animals long ago on Wednesday. 

Miscellaneous-Chippewa Garden Club is visiting the 3^rd grade on Wednesday afternoon for Earth Week. Banana Split party is Thursday from 2:00-3:30. Store is Friday from 2:45-3:30. Reading Achievement test is Monday the 28^th from 9:30-12:00 and the Math Achievement test is Wednesday the 30^th from 9:30-12:00. Please make sure your child gets plenty of rest on these days.

Thursday, April 24^th      -  Math- math boxes 11.3 and work on book reports. Study math multiplication facts for tomorrow timed test.

In Reading Language Arts We will be reading a story called The Crowded House on pages 120-135. The skills we will be concentrating on are reading guided comprehension, vocabulary, spelling words with –er and –est, author’s purpose, making predictions, adjectives that compare and writing a paragraph that explains.  On Thursday we will be taking our End of Selection Test. This is a vocabulary test along with reading comprehension from the story. The vocabulary words are listed on the spelling sheet and the students should study those throughout the week. Our spelling test will be on Friday. BOOK REPORTS FOR APRIL ARE DUE BY FRIDAY, May 2^nd !!! 

In Math we will be concentrating on sections  8.6 fractions greater than one, 8.7 fractions in number stories and testing over this short unit on Friday. Please look over the review sheet sent home with the SRB for the up and coming test. Also, on Friday we will take the 100 facts multiplication tests.  The students have 10 to 15 minutes to complete this test with 90% – 100 % accuracy. Please use the sheets I sent home prior to Spring Break for practice.  Last, we will continue to practice for the Math Ach. Test in 2 weeks.  

 In Science we will be wrapping up our unit on life cycles and test over it next Tuesday the 22^nd.  

Miscellaneous-NO SCHOOL THIS WEDNESDAY- TEACHER IN-SERVICE Spring pictures have been changed to Monday April 21st.  The calendar says April 18th.  We had to change it because the author is coming on the 18th!  Please make note of this change.  Book Bash this Friday the 18^th.

Friday, April 18^th      – Work on Book reports due by May 2nd

The skills we will be concentrating on are reading guided comprehension, vocabulary, spelling words with double consonants, comparing and contrasting, following directions, articles (adjectives the, an and a) and writing effective sentences. On Thursday we will be taking our End of Selection Test. This is a vocabulary test along with reading comprehension from the story. The vocabulary words are listed on the spelling sheet and the students should study those throughout the week. Our spelling test will be on Friday. BOOK REPORTS FOR APRIL ARE DUE BY FRIDAY, May 2^nd !!!

Please use the sheets I sent home prior to Spring Break for practice.  Last, we will continue to practice for the Math Ach. Test in 4 weeks.  

In Science we will be learning about the life cycle of a chicken from egg to hatching. We will also continue to observe tadpoles in an aquarium to watch them change over the next 9 weeks of school.

 Miscellaneous-Spring pictures have been changed to Monday April 21st.  The calendar says April 18th.  We had to change it because the Book Bash author is coming on the 18th!  Please make note of this change.  Report card envelopes need to be singed and returned ASAP.
